POSITION DESCRIPTION & OVERVIEW

Title: Senior Community Educator - (Internal)

Reports To: Community Organizer

Schedule: On-call employee, Flexible schedule

Compensation: $25.00/hr

Job Classification: Hourly, Non-exempt, up to 15 Hours/Week, On-call obligations

Union Representation: This position is not a union represented position

The Senior Community Educator is responsible for preparing for, attending, and sharing their story during the "A Day in the Life" program sessions. A Day in the Life's mission is to motivate community members to learn, engage, and advocate on all levels to address the issue of homelessness.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS

  • Show exemplary work, lead-by-example, and demonstrate ability and willingness to take on program development and higher-level tasks alongside the Community Organizer.
  • Be punctual and actively engaged in all sessions, program meetings, and any tasks as assigned.
  • Must complete all tasks assigned to them on time and within expected quality standards.
  • Demonstrate consistency and stability while performing this work.
  • Respond to speaking requests in a timely fashion.
  • Work respectfully and collaboratively with colleagues and community members.
  • Represent Agate positively in the community.
  • Clarify to the public when one is speaking from personal experience, versus on behalf of Agate. When speaking on behalf of Agate, messaging must align with Agate's values.
  • Be comfortable with and engage in hard conversations around controversial topics authentically, tactfully, and with respect.
  • Under guidance of Community Organizer, participate in ongoing education to expand and update knowledge of homelessness and its many interrelated subjects.
  • Engage in 1-1 check ins with Program Manager related to work performance and goals.

Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION

Occasional walking and busing up to 2-4 miles during sessions. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Personal experience with homelessness ("lived experience") is required for this position

  • Group facilitation
  • Experience working in a similar role, or in other community engagement environments
  • Proficiency and comfort working with technology, especially Microsoft Suite applications including Microsoft Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
  • Fluency in languages used by our clients (Spanish, Amharic, Oromo, Somali, ASL)
