Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY

This position maintains and manages Louisville Water Company's IT infrastructure. It ensures the stability, security, and efficiency of the company's physical and virtual server systems and data networks. Responsibilities include configuring hardware and software, monitoring system performance, designing, and troubleshooting infrastructure issues, and implementing cybersecurity measures.

JOB FUNCTIONS

Server and Network Management:

Install, configure, and maintain physical and virtual servers. Oversee the maintenance and security of servers, networks, and computer systems. Manage and maintain LAN/WAN networks, firewalls, and VPNs. Assist with designing, installing, and managing Cloud/VM server infrastructure. Installing and managing on-premises and cloud load balancers.

Security and Compliance:

Deploy and maintain security measures such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and antivirus software. Ensure adherence to industry standards and regulations such as GDPR, HIPAA, and PCI DSS. Implement and monitor security protocols to protect the organization's IT infrastructure. Assist with internal and external audits, including penetration vulnerability assessments. Maintaining network and computer/server system security, and managing passwords, single-sign-on (SSO), and two-factor authentication policies and practices.

System Monitoring and Maintenance:

Perform daily system monitoring to verify the contents of system and application logs, completion of scheduled tasks, and reliability and availability of all server and network resources. Apply Operating System patches and upgrades regularly. Maintain and manage system logging and event management, including periodic performance reporting.

User and Vendor Support:

Work with equipment vendors, software vendors, suppliers, and implementers to support the server and network environments. Manage Active Directory environment, including user accounts, groups, organizational units, and group policy settings. Coordinate and support end users and project managers with the desktop environment.

Documentation and Training:

Maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations, procedures, and changes.

Assist with the training of and provide direction for employees. Crosstrain with other IT Infrastructure support staff for knowledge sharing and transfer.

Other Responsibilities:

Participate in weekly on-call rotation with other team members. Attending technical conferences and seminars to keep abreast of new software technology product developments.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Generally, works a 40-hour week in a physical office environment and/or hybrid work; provides off-hours support and incident response when necessary; some travel between company locations; and for training and job skill enhancement as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor of Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Data Processing, or related field; and

Five (5) years of advanced experience in network/system administration, which includes purchasing, installing, upgrading, and supporting switches, routers, firewall management, wireless LAN controllers, intrusion prevention, security solutions, SIEM, access points, Microsoft Windows Server, UNIX/Linux systems, and storage administration including SAN and NAS environments; and

Valid driver's license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Relevant certifications (Cisco certification, CompTIA Security+, Microsoft SC-900, LINUX+ CompTIA) are a plus.

Skilled in administration scripting including PowerShell and batch programming.

Experience with disaster recovery design and testing.

Practical exposure to storage and data management products including Intel based servers and SAN\NAS storage technologies.

Understanding of networking and security technologies as they apply to Microsoft and Linux technologies.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Database and System Management:

Experience managing and supporting Microsoft SQL. Proficiency in operating systems such as Windows, Linux, or Mac. Experience implementing and supporting DNS, DHCP, NTFS, Microsoft Group Policy, and standard desktop productivity applications. Working knowledge of Active Directory, including Domain and Organizational Unit design concepts. Experience in Azure Active Directory, Fortinet, Cisco, and VoIP phone systems environments.

Network and Security Management:

Strong understanding of network management and security protocols. Proficiency in cybersecurity tools and technologies (e.g., firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM). Proficiency with Anti-Spam, Anti-Virus, and Anti-Malware solutions for Microsoft and Linux systems. Strong understanding of network security, encryption, and access control. Knowledge of system administration, network, and operating system hardening techniques.

Cloud Computing:

Experience with cloud computing platforms like AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

Technical and Analytical Skills:

Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Ability to prioritize and multi-task. Demonstrate organizational skills and diligence.

Interpersonal and Communication Skills:

Strong people skills to assist non-technical users. Excellent communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift 60 pounds when installing servers and network devices.
