Organization & Position Overview

The Market Research Analyst Intern will play a role in growing and sustaining the fanbase of the Buffalo Sabres. Through research, data analysis, and fan interactions they will identify existing needs of key market segments and apply insights to marketing programs and growth through collaborative workstreams. This role, as part of the Marketing Department, will report to the Fan Development Manager and work collaboratively with other verticals within Marketing, as well as with Ticketing Operations, Community Relations, Media/Content, Business Intelligence, Business Development, and Brand (digital and social) teams, as well as third party vendors to drive the connection between the brand and the community.

  • Customer-First Focus: Maintain and optimize the fan feedback loop with the Sabres fanbase and Buffalo fans at large through in-house research, and serve as an internal champion for the “voice of the fan”.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Utilize observed/evidence-based customer information to report findings through internal reports and dashboards in service of marketing initiatives
  • Outreach: Be present at touchpoints with Sabres fans in attendance and in the community to learn tendencies and keep an ear to the ground in different fan situations
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist with market research initiatives, including setup, fielding, analysis and/or presentation (e.g. communicating with participants, writing questionnaires & discussion guides, programming surveys)
  • Utilize primary and secondary fan data to inform marketing initiatives (events, activations, etc.)
  • Review survey responses and engage with databases to identify fan engagement trends
  • Assist with and/or attend public marketing initiatives as a representative of the Buffalo Sabres and engage with fans at Sabres games, via email and in-person
  • Participate in internal brainstorms, planning sessions and presentations
  • Build and refine presentations for departmental use and organizational review
  • Collaborate cross-functionally within marketing verticals and across departments by representing the voice of the fan when planning business initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned
Competencies
  • Ability to gather, validate and synthesize data from multiple sources in an organized manner and identify customer trends
  • Familiarity or relevant experience with business research (e.g. surveying, focus groups, secondary reports/studies)
    • Note: Academic experience can replace professional experience
  • Experience with data manipulation/statistics and visualization (e.g. Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, Tableau, or similar business tools)
  • Comfortable with public speaking and delivering presentations in a business/professional setting
  • Willingness and comfortability engaging with the general public and customers/fans
  • Ability to think critically, ask questions and challenge assumptions
  • Customer-first mentality (customer service approach)
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and effectively manage time
  • Business communication skills (oral and written)

Compensation

This internship pays $15.50 per hour.
