Act as the resident advocate and assumes the authority, responsibility and accountability for the quantity and quality of the resident care given on assigned shift. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversight the day to day functions of the nursing assistants in accordance with current rules, regulations and guidelines established by the Ohio Department of Health and CMS Life Safety Code and ensure that personnel providing direct care to residents are doing so in accordance with the residents' care plan and wishes. May direct the nursing assistance in the absence of the RN. Assists and supports the RN Charge working within the same unit. Monitor assigned staff to ensure they are following established safety regulations and infection control techniques in the use of equipment and supplies. Ensure proper administration of all treatments and medications and accountability of all medications, including narcotics. If IV certified, may administer IV solutions and medications via peripheral access as directed by the RN, according to OBN guidelines. Admit, transfer and discharge residents as required. Complete accident/incident reports as necessary, report changes in condition and ensure appropriate documentation regarding such in the medical record. Receive physician's telephone orders and transcribe orders to resident chart, care plan, medication and treatment records. Chart nurses' notes in an informative and descriptive manner that reflects the care provided to the resident, as well as the resident's response to that care. Order prescribed medications, supplies and equipment as necessary, and in accordance with established policies. Participate in employee performance evaluations, determine shift staffing requirements and make recommendations to unit managers/supervisors concerning employee discipline, dismissals, transfers, etc. Inspect the nursing service treatment areas, resident lounges and rooms to ensure they are maintained in a clean and safe manner.
