Graduate GIS Internship

Center City District is seeking a part- time Graduate GIS Intern to use Geographic Information Systems (GIS), to collect, manage maps and analyze a broad range of public spaces and marketplace data that the Center City District tracks. Data collected includes but is not limited to sensitive and/or confidential data related to crime trends and patterns. The Graduate GIS Intern provides analysis about such data as well as highlighting broader patterns and trends within the District, such as retail and building occupancy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:•
- Work under the management of the Manager of GIS Mapping Services and Technology to meet the goals of multiple Center City District departments;
- Assists as needed with entering, analyzing data, and identifying trends;
- Regularly geocode crime data provided by the Philadelphia Police Department;
- Prepare Public Safety data summaries, charts, maps, and related materials in order to support crime prevention strategies, resource allocation, and personnel deployment;
- Review and correct information pertaining to retail businesses, restaurants and service providers within the District using a tablet and ArcGIS FieldMaps;
- Provide GIS analysis, data entry and map production for various departments within the Center City District;
- Use Salesforce and Survey123 to produce reports and pull requested data.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Must be pursuing a master's degree in GIS, Urban Studies or other related field;
- Proficient in desktop GIS software, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and other ESRI products;
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook;
- Proficient in Python and/or SQL, including resolving errors;
- Solid communication skills with the ability to work effectively with fellow employees, representatives of other agencies, organizations and with other related businesses;
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including with ESRI products;
- Detailed-oriented when working with numbers, maps and other visualizations;
- Ability to create high quality work in a fast-paced work environment;
- Strong time management skills to assist in last minute requests;
- Ability to learn and understand programs, including Salesforce and ESRI products, and GIS logic quickly;
- Ability to work onsite in an office setting.
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS: Ability to work in both a sedentary position for extended periods of time, as well as, a mobile work environment collecting data on a handheld tablet.
