Assignment Desk Responsibilities
- Conduct beat checks and manage data entry for ongoing and upcoming news assignments.
- Assist with phone communications and the organization of newsroom correspondence.
- Facilitate guest coordination and manage tape duplication tasks.
Reporting, Writing, Producing, and Editing Duties
- Coordinate guest appearances and gather segment participants.
- Log sound bites and perform data entry for future reference.
- Occasionally shadow news crews in the field or assist with field production.
- Support a digital archiving initiative by converting tapes into digital formats.
Consumer and Investigative Research Tasks
- Conduct background research in collaboration with consumer and political reporters.
- Engage with contacts and follow up on communications to set up stories.
- Screen calls and emails for potential story ideas.
Photojournalism Learning Opportunities
- Acquire foundational knowledge in photojournalism.
- Gain essential skills in video editing.
Candidate Qualifications
- Candidates must be pursuing an Associate, Bachelor, or Graduate degree at an accredited institution.
- A current class standing of sophomore or higher is required.
