Job Title:Online Special Education Teacher

Exemption Status/Test: Part-Time/Professional

Reports to:Headmaster - Great Hearts Online

Location: Remote (residency in Arizona preferred)

Primary Purpose:

To provide educational services to students with disabilities in the online environment, responsible for planning, developing, delivering and evaluating appropriate individualized educational services, learning programs and instruction in both self- contained and all other integrated settings in consultation with other school personnel and Online Special Education Coordinator. This position is part-time (25 hours/week).

Qualifications: Education/Certification:

  • Candidates must hold at least a Bachelor's degree and a valid Arizona certification in Special Education (mild to moderate, cross-categorical, learning disability, or intern/alternative)and have a current AZ IVP fingerprint clearance card.
  • Candidates must be proficient in the use of technology.
  • Great Hearts teachers must also demonstrate a commitment to and love for the liberal arts.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Knowledge of core academic subject assigned Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations and policies affecting special education Knowledge of current special education practices and methodologies
  • Knowledge of educational technology applications
Experience:

Minimum two years Special Education Teaching

Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations/modifications for differences in individual student needs.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment/ technology that reflect understanding the needs of students' assigned deliver subject matter according to each students Individual Plan (IEP) and guidelines established by the ADE, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Ongoing communication and collaboration with campus Special Education Coordinators, teachers, staff, and administration regarding student planning, scheduling, and student progress.
  • Work cooperatively with general education teachers to modify and/or accommodate curricula, as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in the Individualized Education Plan.
  • Maintain records for data collection and progress monitoring for all assigned students.
  • Assist parents with understanding and supporting educational objectives, learning expectations and behavioral standards in the online learning environment
  • Participate in any Professional Development activities, as requested by the headmaster.
  • Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Attend and participate in meetings for Special Educations services and supports, as appropriate.
  • Maintain a current knowledge of special education best practices and trends.
