Job Description
SUMMARY

Responsible for providing alcohol, drug, and mental health evidence-based treatment to adults and adolescents, with the ability to make dual diagnoses. Responsibilities in an outpatient position include assessment, treatment planning, on-going individual and group therapy, case management, and related documentation. Responsibilities in an inpatient position include assessment, brief intervention, and referral. This position works collaboratively with other providers on a daily basis.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides culturally competent, trauma-informed counseling services including assessment of client's social, behavioral, emotional, and family situation and client's goals in seeking outpatient behavioral health services.
  • Determine the level of treatment needed for each patient based on appropriate diagnostic and patient placement criteria; formulate and implement individualized, patient-centered treatment plans; and provide appropriate interventions based on ability to participate, cultural concerns, and diagnostic impression.
  • Establish a therapeutic relationship with clients and/or families seeking outpatient behavioral health services to help facilitate client focused change and resolution of client identified issues.
  • Participate as an active member of the clinical treatment team, including participating in case staffing and supervision sessions, collaborating to provide coverage for provider absences, sharing expertise and clinical impressions with team members, and attending staff meetings and trainings.
  • Maintain progress notes and other documentation required for the patient electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Provide feedback on clinical and diagnostic matters to management staff.
  • Participate in quality initiatives and utilization review activities as requested.
  • Participate in training new staff, supervising students, and assisting other visiting clinical personnel as needed
  • Knowledge of human behavior and complex behavioral problems.
  • Knowledge of wellness and recovery models.
  • Knowledge of mental illness, substance use and co-occurring disorders.
  • Ability to handle stress.
  • Ability to stabilize crisis situations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to relate effectively to clients.
  • Maintain appearance standards as outlined in CTCLUSI policies.
  • Must be able to interact with Tribal members and the general public in a courteous, professional, and efficient manner.
  • Dedicated to providing the best patient care possible.
  • Provide excellent customer service to clients and vendors of Three Rivers Health Center.
  • Maintain a good attendance record.
  • Other duties as directed by management.
PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS
  • Must be able to walk, talk, hear, use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • May be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be willing and able to work long hours, which may include evenings and weekends.
  • Must be willing and able to travel both locally and within the CTCLUSI service delivery area.
WORKING CONDITIONS & ENVIRONMENT
  • Varied activities including standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient's manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 100 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • May be required to work in locations other than Three Rivers Health Center, such as schools or at an outreach work location.
  • May be required to attend meetings, conferences and Tribal events.

Experience and Skills
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Master's degree in social work, Psychology, Counseling, Marriage and Family Counseling, or other Behavioral Health related field.
  • One (1) year of combined experience working with individuals with substance use and mental health disorders.
  • Preferred Two (2) years of combined experience working with individuals with substance use and mental health disorders.
  • Knowledge of legal guidelines relating to alcohol, drug, and mental health counseling
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent interviewing and assessment skills
  • Strong ability to translate assessment information into a treatment plan
  • Demonstrated success in working with a culturally diverse patient population and community
  • Demonstrated ability in managing stress and crisis situations
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal community resources available to patients
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Available to work flexible work schedule including evenings.
  • Superb organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in order to deal with people in distress.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, volunteers, medical and clinical professionals within the community.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required
  • This is a Safety Sensitive Position as defined in the Alcohol & Drug Policy.
  • This position is subject to pre-employment drug testing.
  • This is a covered position which requires background check that includes fingerprinting.
  • Must have employment eligibility in the U.S.
  • Indian preference will be observed in the hiring process.
