Job Description

The Systems Engineer II (SE-II) is a member of and participates in the day-to-day operations of the Data Center team. The SE-II supports the successful installation, maintenance and care of server systems, server builds, networks, and other infrastructure in the Data Center. Depending on the needs of the Data Center, the individual may focus on, or specialize in, Data Networking, Server Administration and or Storage management. The individual will have a working familiarity and be able to serve as on-call for all technologies in the Data Center, regardless of their specialty or level. This individual must be capable of making decisions regarding the urgency and or seriousness of calls and serve as a liaison between the technical staff and the department's wide variety of customers. Depending on Operations, business or project needs, the SE-II may be asked to perform duties outside what is defined in the job description on a short or long term basis.

Required Knowledge Skills

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Experience: Four years of related experience. Requires broad knowledge of complex systems and procedures.

Exercises no supervision, work direction, or instruction of other employees or students

Qualifications

The ability to update existing technical procedural documentation. Administrative knowledge of Windows server, networking and storage best practices and or Cisco Networking best practices. Should be considered very competent in one, and familiar with the other. Knowledge of IT infrastructure, change management methodologies, problem solving methodology. Basic understanding of Mechanical and Electrical infrastructure within a Data Center environment. Familiar with racking different types of equipment (eg. SUN, DELL, IBM, Blade technology Cisco, etc...) within a data center environment with emphasis on organized and clean cable management. Experience with Data Center monitoring tools such as SCCM, SolarWinds, NetScout, or similar technologies. Strong customer service orientation, proven ability to pay attention to details, proven dependability, promptness, and a solid attendance history.

An SE-II with a focus on Data Networking will have: Experience with Cisco switch routers access points. The ability to trouble-shoot many facets of network layers and components Experience supporting Cisco services to include Cisco routers switches and wireless access points. Familiarity with Cisco DNA, ISE and Prime. Basic knowledge of networking components and services such as TCP IP protocols, DHCP and DNS technologies, and LAN WAN topologies and transports. Familiarity and some baseline experience items listed as Data Center focus or the willingness to cross-train within 90 days of hire.

An SE-II with a focus in Data Center technology will have: Experience with blade server technology. Experience with Citrix VDI deployment and support. Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) features. The ability with minimal supervision to work with the Microsoft Windows Server Operating systems, required for troubleshooting, driver installs, upgrades, patching and assistance with deployment of servers. Familiar with a raised floor Data Center environment with some knowledge of power, heating and cooling. Familiar with storage technology hardware, EMC, Brocade, etc. Familiarity and some baseline experience in skills required in the Network focus or the willingness to cross-train within 90 days of hire

Education required is High School Diploma or GED. A.A or A.S and related certification(s) or 4 years experience. B.S in related field with certification(s) preferred.

Experience required is 4 years with no degree or 2 years of experience with a degree and certification(s).
