Responsibilities

Working team lead who is competent in all Surgical Technologist procedures and is responsible for organizing, facilitating and ensuring that individual surgical specialty areas are effectively operationalized. Responds to service deficiencies, monitors staff performance, revises staff allocations in response to work volumes. Acts as a subject matter expert, which includes training and curriculum development, quality and productivity monitoring. Monitors compliance with accreditation standards and implements practice changes as necessary.

Accountabilities

1. Monitors the daily operation of the surgical specialty, promoting and assuring a high standard of care.2. Reviews cases in advance to ensure supplies and equipment are available prior to surgery. Resolves conflicts and clarifies needs with surgeons, Material Services, Sterile Processing and vendors.3. Maintains knowledge of evidence based standards and advancements in practice. Collaborates with department leadership and the Advanced Practice Nurse to advance evidence based practice in the specialty.4. Works with surgeons to create, maintain, and update preference cards for each procedure so that the cards are complete, well-constructed, and easy to follow allowing a novice to do basic set-ups and provide directions to the RN and ST.5. Supports program development, procedure and education needs in the specialty. Develops orientation plan for new employees that include mentoring and clinical orientation in the specialty, development of clinical skills, knowledge of equipment, and procedures within the specialty.6. Works closely with the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) to review, standardize and ensure that sets meet IFU and surgeon requirements and are complete and available.7. Onboard new surgeons to the OR including development of new procedure cards, review of instrumentation, equipment and review of safety processes, policies and procedures.8. Collaborates with department leadership and other affected departments to ensure a new case can be supported, i.e. IT and plant management.9. Provides input into capital budget requests and product selection.10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma, General Education Development (GED) or Completion of a CMC Approved Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Certificate required
  • Graduate of a recognized Surgical Technology Program required

Experience

  • 2 years of Surgical Technologist experience required

Licenses and Certifications

  • BLS - Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers by American Heart Association (AHA) required
  • CST - Certified Surgical Technologist required
