POSITION SUMMARY

The Surgical Technician works directly with the surgeon and the circulating registered nurse. The position's duties are highly variable, so the successful candidate must be willing to change direction at a moment's notice and keep pace with the other professionals on staff.

ESSENTIAL PILLAR DUTIES

The following are the general-expected duties of this position and are not meant to be all-encompassing. Additional duties may be assigned as appropriate.

    • People and Culture
      • Have knowledge of departmental policies, procedures, objectives, and standards of behavior.
      • Supports and promotes excellence in customer/guest relations.
      • Take call for duty after hours and holidays, as scheduled.
    • Integration and Efficiency
      • Run QI/QA tests daily and maintains the required logs and documentation.
    • Financial Vitality
      • Restocks, labels, and maintains supply inventories.
    • Quality and Safety
      • Supports the organization's safety program.
      • Supports the organization's Infection Prevention program.
      • Decontaminates medical equipment and distributes medical supplies to the OR department, hospital departments and clinics.
      • Inspects instruments prior to and after processing.
      • Preparation for surgery includes scrub time and instrument set-up.
      • Help surgeons with instruments and provide assistance.
      • Keep constant vigilance on sterile processes.
      • Notifies department manager of equipment that is in need of repair.
      • Clean the Operating Room; help restock and prepare for the next case.
      • Pull cases for upcoming surgeries.
    • Growth and Development
      • Research new technology as applies to surgical instruments.
  • EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma/GED required
  • Certified Surgical Technician preferred
  • BLS certification or able to obtain it within 3 months
  • EXPERIENCE
    • 1+ year experience in a hospital or outpatient operating room preferred
    • Familiarity with all surgical instruments and equipment preferred
    • Working knowledge of sterile and aseptic techniques
