Lebanon, United States D-H Lebanon-MHMH Full time
Overview
The Chad Inpatient Unit (Pediatrics and Pediatric ICU) has recently undergone renovation to create space for a combined PICU and Pediatric unit. We are an 18-bed integrated unit providing care for med-surgical, stepdown, and critical care level pediatric patients all on the same floor.

Our unit has two specialties including Pediatric medical surgical and Pediatric ICU. We have 7 med-surgical beds, 7 stepdown beds and 4 critical care beds. We care for patients from birth to 18 years old with a patient and family centered philosophy as we view patients and their families as partners in their care.

We provide a wide variety of surgical services including orthopedic, ENT, GI, general surgery, hematology/oncology, neurosurgery, and trauma. We also care for patients with a wide variety of acute and chronic medical diagnoses including dehydration, failure to thrive, seizures, cystic fibrosis, asthma, diabetes, oncology, respiratory insufficiency, and cardiac disease.

The new integrated unit care model presents a great opportunity for learners. Our unit has two specialties: Pediatric medical surgical and pediatric ICU.

The pediatric medical surgical RNs care for pediatric patients as well as become certified hematology/oncology RNs. RNs gain APHON certification within one year (Association Pediatric Hematology / Oncology Nursing). This certification allows them to care for the child with an oncological diagnosis and administer chemotherapy. Pediatric RNs also become step down trained so they may care for children with higher acuity needs.

The pediatric ICU RNs care for critical care patients and step down patients. These RNs have the opportunity to do TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Certification) and ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course). The Pediatric ICU nursing team responds to in house code blues and acts as the pediatric Hitchcock early response team (HERT).

The renovation also includes the creation of a play and family space that will be in the center of the unit.

If you are looking for a fast-paced environment with a wide variety of ages, diagnoses, and multiple levels of care then you would love the Chad Inpatient Unit We will be looking for nursing students who are flexible and able to stay calm and composed in emergent/urgent situations. They also should have a strong desire to work with both children and their families.
