Job Description:

Airbus US Manufacturing Facility is looking for a Mechanical & Electrical Installation Engineer (MAP)  to join our A320 Family department based in Mobile, AL

Predominantly focusing on A320 Family Mechanical and Electrical Systems Installation Engineering, the jobholder is accountable for all design engineering activities in the area of Electrical/Equipment Installation (ESI ATA92), all ATA Chapters for Mechanical System Installation (MSI) and Cabin & Cargo-Furnishing/-Systems (EC) linked to non-conformities* and concessions* originated during the A320 Family FAL US manufacturing process.

Meet the team:

Our Engineers at the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing facility take our aircraft from concept to customer delivery – working with production teams on every aspect of assembly from managing technical information, quality control, maintenance tasks and health & safety – along flowlines and flightlines. Join our team and watch our aircraft come to life.

Your working environment:

Nearby on ‘Airbus Way’ you will find the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility for commercial aircraft. Opened at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley in 2015, the facility produces A320 Family aircraft and added a second product line for the A220 in 2019. The facility, which strengthens the U.S. aerospace industry, is part of Airbus’ strategy to enhance its global competitiveness by meeting the growing needs of its customers in the United States and beyond.

How we care for you:

  • Financial Rewards: Competitive base salary, incentive compensation which may include profit sharing schemes, retirement savings plan and the ability to participate in an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (“ESOP”)

  • Work/Life Balance: Paid time off including personal time, holidays and a generous paid parental leave program.

  • Health & Welfare: Comprehensive insurance coverage including medical (traditional and high-deductible health plans), prescription, dental, vision, life, disability, Employee Assistance Plan (“EAP”) and other supplemental benefit coverages.

  • Individual Development: Upskilling and development opportunities through our global Leadership University, including unlimited access to 10,000+ e-learning courses focusing on ways to develop your employability, certifications, career path as well as the opportunity to participate in accelerated development programmes and both national and international mobility.

At Airbus, we support you to work, connect and collaborate more easily and accessibly. Wherever possible, we foster flexible working arrangements to stimulate innovative thinking.

Your challenges:

  • The jobholder is accountable for the given approved repair, rework and troubleshooting instruction as well as for design update solutions in front of the corresponding design/stress office and authorities (EASA/FAA).

  • Creation / approval / authorization (release) of technical solutions including structure justification reports for repairs / reworks or design updates. Standard repairs are approved autonomously, major repairs if required with the support of the Airbus Engineering departments (design, stress, fatigue, aerodynamics, material etc.) or other transnational A320 Family MAP Engineering teams.

  • Representing and acting on behalf of the Chief Engineering and the design offices of AIRBUS (by delegation) as well as design to build suppliers.

  • The jobholder acts as an interface between the A320 Family Chief Engineer/ Design office and the Manufacturing/ Quality assurance (Operations).

  • To define technical solutions during NC treatment for metallic and composite structure comprising the complete primary / secondary aircraft structure (all Airframe ATA chapters linked to structures design).

  • Creation, approval and monitoring of design corrective actions / improvements and preventive measures (launch of new modifications, drawing updates, design query notes) driving product improvements or non-conformity eradication.

  • To provide engineering support to the FAL US (and to remote A320 Family FALs) during the complete manufacturing process from the delivery of the sections, FAL and flight Line activities,  up to the aircraft ferry flight  in all structure related items including engineering presentations in front of the customers (internal and external).

  • Creation, approval and authorization of temporary aircraft definitions (special instructions) in line with design and airworthiness requirements for testing purposes.

  • Present technical explanations/corrective actions to the flight test department and to the customer if required (internal and external customers).

  • Performs other duties as assigned and adapted to the FAL requirements.

  • As part of the A320 Family MAP Engineering team, the incumbent will be responsible based on the individual’s qualifications, experience, delegations and skills to provide training and guidance within the MFTs and the Quality and Production teams, to lead investigation to major and recurrent issues, and provide support to other single aisle FALs within the Airbus network.

Your boarding pass:

  • Capability to train towards and obtain Design Office and Chief Engineering delegations for A320 Family Aircraft.

  • Experience in design of metallic and/or composite aircraft structure (airframe).
