Position Overview: Workstation Technician
Summary: The Workstation Technician collaborates with Workstation Support Services business units to ensure that hardware and software orders are received, configured, scheduled, and installed according to specifications. This role involves labeling equipment, researching and documenting device specifications, and coordinating with service and business units to relocate equipment as needed. The technician provides on-site installation, customer service, technical support, and repairs based on department or individual customer requests. This position also serves as a technical and equipment liaison in the field and assists with end-user training.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Workstation Support Services business units to manage hardware and software orders.
- Ensure equipment is labeled according to specifications.
- Research, verify, and document device specifications in line with purchase orders and standards.
- Coordinate with service and business units to relocate equipment as requested by departments.
- Provide on-site installation, customer service, technical support, and repairs based on customer requests.
- Serve as a technical and equipment liaison in the field, working with other support services such as the Help Desk, Applications, and Materials Management.
- Assist with end-user training, explaining basic concepts and procedures such as hardware and software requirements, moves/adds/changes implications, scheduling, and impacts of proposed break/fix options.
- Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment necessary for installations or repair requests.
- Collaborate with other IT Infrastructure areas to manage parts inventory.
- Evaluate and process equipment according to IT Security policies and guidelines.
- May require overtime and participation in on-call duties.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma and 2 years of professional customer service experience supporting PC, Macintosh, desktop computing hardware, and peripheral equipment, including knowledge of Operating Systems and configuration, hardware configuration, and software installation.
- OR an Associate's degree OR two years of Technical School training in Computers, Technology, Electronics, or a related field.
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to work independently and provide effective on-site installation and technical support.
- Strong customer service skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to a diverse customer base.
- Willingness to work overtime and participate in on-call duties as needed.
This position requires a proactive and customer-focused individual who can manage multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining high standards of quality and professionalism.
