1st Shift - 6:00AM to 2:30PM (Monday-Friday)
SUMMARY
The Quality Technician is responsible for the testing and inspection of materials, equipment operation and maintenance, and the documentation of results.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participates as a team member and assists in developing Qualification Plans and R&D Test Requests, to support the Design Review process for new product development.
- Performs testing as specified in Qualification Plans and/or R&D Test Requests, or otherwise requested.
- Performs cosmetic inspection on various products to Hoya Quality Standards.
- Assists in writing Qualification Reports for R&D management.
- Collects and evaluates data for R&D Test Requests and reports the collected data to the job requestor.
- Uses the R&D tracking systems to monitor and close out job requests.
- Operates and maintains various test equipment.
- Provides input for new work instructions, and subsequent revisions.
- Follows all QMS and safety protocols.
- Other duties as required.
- Effective communication of activities, results and reports to manager and key stakeholders.
- Timely delivery of results to plans that meet schedules and milestones.
- Active participation on teams to produce plans that support the Design Review process.
- Assists in writing of clear and concise reports.
- High School diploma is required with a demonstrated interest in scientific/engineering fields. Associate degree in a STEM field is preferred.
- Shows understanding of scientific principles relevant to products and processes: chemistry, optics and/or material properties.
- Working knowledge of R&D equipment and instruments and procedures, and/or cosmetic inspection techniques and standards.
- Effective in managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Ability to work as part of a team and cross-functionally across various departments.
- Comfortable working with and around chemicals in lab setting.
- Good communication skills (written and verbal).
- Mechanical dexterity is preferred, but not required.
Basic knowledge and skill on PC to operate PC based analytical equipment. Database, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Minitab experience is desired. Ability to learn new software programs as required for data collection through various measurement systems

Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and to use hands to grasp and manipulate. The duties of this job require occasionally exposure to working near moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles, UV rays, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Safety Requirements
- Basic understanding of the Injury and Illness Prevention Program and the Hazard Communication Program.
- Closed toe shoe required with heel support.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment may require P.P.E.
- Safety glasses and long sleeve shirts may be required where needed.
