Sales Engineer

Fives Group is seeking a Sales Engineer

The Sales Engineer works as part of a team at the very front end of the business and leads the creation of high value customer proposals for precision grinding systems with advanced processes. The Sales Engineer collaborates with company applications, innovations, and engineering teams, and the customer, to develop the best technical and commercial solution for the application. The Sales Engineer evaluates specifications, risks, and costs to prepare a comprehensive, professional proposal for the customer, respecting set deadlines, pricing guidelines and corporate directives. The Sales Engineer interacts closely with the commercial team and is a main contributor in the strategy and mission to win the order. After the proposal becomes an order, the Sales Engineer is responsible for finalizing the information needed from the customer and launching the project into the company, including a precise hand-off to Project Management. This includes leading processes for machine order entry, budgeting and factory order creation and line-up.

Summary Main Tasks / Responsibilities
1. Evaluates sales inquiries and opportunities and leads the process to determine the best technical and commercial solution for the customer's application.
2. Analyzes and determines production requirements for targeted solution & develops a specific proposal for quotation to prospective customer.
3. Uses extensively Salesforce, SAP, Adept, and other important data to complete tasks accurately and expeditiously.
4. Communicate with automation and equipment vendors to establish ancillary equipment needs and receives vendor quotation for project pricing.
5. Is a key contributor to the team that develops the strategy, technical differentiators, and Landis value proposition to win the order.
6. Collaborates and contributes to the presentation of proposals to customers as a subject matter expert.
7. Develops project budget, writes machine factory order, and leads subsequent order line-up meeting and launch of order into the company.
8. Keep a log of activities organized per department protocols and business systems. All
correspondence and telephone call notes must be recorded, and the original copy is to be filed in the project book and a copy is to be filed in the order correspondence file, if required.
9. Maintain a high level of professionalism and represent Fives Landis Corp. as an industry leader to customers, suppliers, professional colleagues and employees.

Education, Training and Experience
1. Requires college education or the equivalent in practical experience with precision grinding technology and/or the grinding process in the manufacturing industry. Engineering background a plus.
2. Requires high analytical, organizational, and conceptual skills in identifying, planning, and implementing a course of action to achieve goals. Must have the ability to sift through facts and opinions, combine and organize existing ideas and develop a structured approach to problem solving and solution-based proposal completion. Requires ingenuity and creativity to translate ideas into accurate proposals; sound judgment in selection of vendors, design, layout, components, tooling, etc., based on interacting criteria and team expertise. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
3. Works under self-imposed schedules and standards, collaborating with the wider team and other subject matter application experts, with only administrative guidance.
4. Directs work of others on a project basis. Must be quality and cost conscious and be able to objectively evaluate errors to implement processes that achieve our goals of on-time delivery, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
5. Must understand the wider teams within the company, corporate structures and their respective goals and directives, objectives, and responsibilities. Requires an understanding of budgets, margins, burden rates and profit and loss statements relative to each project.
6. Develops and maintains updated knowledge of the competition, their processes, and the market prices.
7. Requires continuous mental and visual attention for varied details under pressure of interruptions, complications, changes, and schedule demands.
8. Normal office environment with visits and exposure to shop environment. Must be neat in appearance and project a positive, professional attitude, especially when communicating with customer and vendors.
9. Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.
10. General and hands on knowledge of Landis mechanical, electrical, software, grinding process, tooling, application design standards a plus.
