Job Summary

The Counselor will work directly with the school district and BRYSS campus to address barriers that impact student learning. This position is an essential part of BRYSS and will require practices to ensure fidelity of implementation and direct impact to students.

Qualifications

• Three-five years of work experience as a teacher working with students.

• Bachelor's and master's degree Certification as a Counselor (Licensed in State of Texas) required.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to effectively work in teams.

• Ability to coordinate and reach out to external partners.

• Ability to multitask, problem solve and pivot on the spot.

• Be an advocate for all children and be compassionate.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

1. To support students as they overcome challenges that interfere with learning.

2. Research the campus social emotional needs and develop and plan to address these challenges.

3. Provides individual student planning and responsive services to support students and their families regarding academic matters.

4. Provides individual student planning and responsive services to support students and their families regarding academic and social emotional issues.

5. Develop and implement strategies to prevent students from dropping out of school.

6. Teaches guidance classes and provides guidance counseling to students through planned activities in small groups or classroom settings to support the well-being of students and offers workshops/seminars for parents.

7. Consults, facilitates, and maintains communication with parents, teachers, administrators, and pertinent agents on specific student and parent academic and educational matters.

8. Participates on a variety of teams including Intervention Assistance, District Advisory Council, and the campus Behavioral Threat Assessment team, identifies students who may need targeted or intensive services, and connects/coordinates with other health specialists as needed.

9. Offer parent support and increase parental engagement in coordination with district leaders, teachers, and principal.

10. Build strategies to effectively work with parents and families to ensure the wellbeing of students and meet their emotional and academic needs.

11. Provide and/or coordinate training according to needs and compliance requirements.

12. Supports and attends appropriate student activities and events.

13. Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the SCG project manager.
