Position Summary

Performs a variety of entry level and full performance professional case management and drug court duties involving linking and coordinating community supports and services for clients with Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders. Works under the administrative supervision of the Director of D6 Treatment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains cooperative relationships with officials and volunteers in the judicial and criminal justice system including law enforcement and probation; mental health and public assistance programs; health care providers; education and vocational training programs; and various other public and private agencies, organizations, and community support groups.
  • Develops effective relationships with service providers and support groups in the community and assists participants and their family members to obtain necessary services and support with those in the D6 Treatment programs include the Felony, Misdemeanor, Juvenile, and Child Protection Family Drug Court.
  • Works cooperatively with family members and agencies and organizations listed above to identify and evaluate the client's health and human service needs, develop a case plan, and assist the client and family members in obtaining necessary services and support to meet their needs and comply with the terms and conditions of their probation. Incumbent works as the client's partner, not as the client's therapist or supervisor.
  • May assist participants in completing documents necessary to implement services; collects data and provide information or arranges for support services such as medical care, legal assistance, housing, employment and other private and public community resources.
  • May provide instruction to participants in homemaking, daily living and job attainment skills; deal with participant maladaptive behavior; monitor follow-through and achievement of goals and agreements; ensure access to services; take progress notes; participate in interdisciplinary team meetings; may serve as an advocate for the participant in meetings and with service providers; act as a role model and monitor family and participant activities related to court agreements; and teach skills including but not limited to money/budgeting, parenting, personal hygiene, and social skills. May be required to become trained in administering common standardized assessments.
  • Will be responsible for the billing and budgeting associated with any case management related services. In addition, will assist the drug court coordinator in the processing and tracking of program fees of the participants.
  • Conducts regular meetings with Project participants and performs follow up to verify and document compliance with terms and conditions of project case plan including verification of employment, place of residence, completion of community service hours, attendance at required counseling and treatment programs, and other related appointments.
  • Establishes and maintains a case file for each client; monitors and documents client's activities, progress and compliance with terms and conditions of project case plan and prepares and submits various reports and recommendations to the project manager, the courts, probation officers, and other agencies, organizations or interested parties as required.
  • Attends court status hearings as needed to facilitate communication between community resources and the courts; maintains contact with judges, employers, family members, treatment providers and other services within the community as needed to follow compliance and actions in supervising Project participants.
  • Identifies, contacts, and establishes working relationships volunteers within the community who are involved or could become involved in providing services and support for project participants.
  • Promotes a positive department image in the community by providing information to groups and community resources; collaborating with teams on client services; providing support for the client and family members; coordinating therapeutic services; and reporting to the court on observations.
  • Assists the Administrative Staff as directed and performs other related duties as assigned.
Competency Requirements
  1. Education and Experience:
  • Requires graduation from college with a bachelor's degree in social work and has a current license in social work AND one year of responsible work experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  1. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Considerable knowledge of Idaho judicial and criminal justice systems; legal liabilities associated with program operations; generally accepted case management practices for program participants with behavior and substance abuse problems in court ordered treatment programs; and various community, state and private agencies or organizations involved in treatment and counseling of program participants; personal computer operations and related software applications. Considerable knowledge of principles of supervision and employee motivation practices; basic bookkeeping; basic mathematics; interpersonal communications and public relations; legal terms and definitions; problem solving, planning and goal setting techniques.
  • Skill in leadership, organization, interpersonal and written communication including use of proper English grammar, composition, spelling and punctuation, efficient in use of computer/word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; ability to network, develop, and maintain strong and effective working relationships with program participants and their families, detention staff, probation officers, professionals, the courts and other agencies; ability to work independently and maintain a strong working relationship with others; ability to direct or lead others; maintain detailed records and prepare a variety complex detailed written reports including written, oral and multimedia presentations; ability to initiate ability to exercise independent judgment and apply problem solving methods to initiate and analyze complex situations and develop effective treatment and project plans and ; to be flexible and respond quickly and appropriately under stress in a variety of unusual or unexpected situations; and to effectively use computers and standard office equipment and systems to establish and maintain detailed case records and reports.
  1. Special Qualifications:
  • Ability to complete the State of Idaho's Essentials of Case Management for Substance Use Disorders and Mental Health Professionals Training or equivalent.
  • Must maintain a valid Idaho driver's license.
  • Basic typing and data entry skills.
  • Requires moderate level of knowledge of computer skills including Power-Point, Word and Excel.
  • Requires a background investigation and fingerprints.


Work Enviornment

Functions of the position are generally performed in a controlled environment, however at times will include making home visits. Some functions of the work pose a degree of hazard uncertainty. Physical readiness and conditioning may be a condition of job retention. Various levels of mental application required, i.e. memory for details, emotional stability, discriminating thinking, creative problem solving. Some local and regional travel is required. Some weekend work will be required and daily hours may vary.
