About the Indiana Office of Technology (IOT):

The Indiana Office of Technology provides cost-effective, secure, consistent, reliable enterprise-technology services to our partner agencies so that they can better serve our mutual customer, the Hoosier taxpayer. IOT will also act as the technology and solution enabler for the State, helping its partner agencies achieve business objectives and innovation.

Salary:

This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $40,404. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.

Role Overview:

The Computer Scheduler responds to Tier 1 and a few Tier 2 data center operational functions. Responsibilities included defining, monitoring, and responding to various alerts, alarms, and workloads across a variety of systems, in an enterprise data center. Systems include Windows, Linux, Unix, z/Os, and various network components, using tools such as CA7, CA11, TSO, SDSF, Orion, and others. The candidate will serve on a team that is the central point of command and control for a wide variety of IT systems and application support. This area is staffed 24x7x365. Candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced, and sometimes high-stress environment. Weekends and Holidays are covered on a rotating basis but are required.

This is a third-shift position. A typical schedule is 12:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.

A Day in the Life:

  • Evaluate and define job types, definitions, dependencies, triggers, and related details based on customer requests and needs.
  • Define job schedules based on complex scheduling requirements.
  • Monitor the execution of the defined workflows and respond to any anomaly according to predefined procedures and policies.
  • Document all jobs/tasks to include the reason for failure, steps completed to resolve the issue, and any changes made to prevent this incident from occurring in the future.
  • Ensure that all security protocols are followed about data center access.
  • Monitor fire suppression, cooling, Power, and UPS systems. Report, respond, and follow up on any issues that are found.
  • Monitor network systems to include Orion console, site notifications, troubleshooting assistance, contacting carriers, triage and escalation, incident lifecycle management, documenting, and reporting.
  • Provide Tier 1 helpdesk support that includes assessment, incident documentation, troubleshooting, password resets, other documented processes, and escalation for events that are impacting critical systems.
  • Take action for critical alerts that are generated for various distributed systems and respond based on predefined policies and procedures.
  • Monitor mainframe systems and maintenance and respond to alerts. These include JCL creation and modifications, completing documented IPL procedures, and following procedures related to starting and stopping various tasks and applications.
  • Triage and, when needed, escalate problems to appropriate support personnel.
  • Keep management aware of current or potential problems.
  • Operate and monitor various activities and ensure that the agencies we serve can carry out their responsibilities to state constituents.
  • Ensure the timely completion of production batch cycles and interface with clients in the scheduling and running of production jobs as needed.

What You'll Need for Success:
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required. An Associate's or Bachelor's degree is preferred. Equivalent experience in an IT Operations environment can be substituted for college education.
  • Data Center/NOC Operations experience.
  • Experience with workload automation/job scheduling concepts.
