The Electronic Warfare (EW) Division is a dynamic research and development organization within the Leidos Innovations Center (LInC), comprised of 430 dedicated employees. We are pioneers in the research, design, and development of Electronic Warfare systems, directed energy systems, high speed and hypersonic weapon systems, communications and networking systems, and other crucial technologies that fortify our nation's defense.

We are looking for a Lead Microelectronics Design Engineer to join our collaborative design team, which includes electrical engineers, systems engineers, scientists, and more. In this role, you will actively contribute to the design, development, simulation, and integration of innovative custom microelectronics that support critical warfighter missions. A solid foundation in Digital Signal Processing (DSP) algorithms and their implementation in MATLAB and FPGAs is essential to thrive in this fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment. You will also play a vital role in the integration, testing, and verification of our final products.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct technical and programmatic assessments of technologies, capabilities, materials, equipment, and performers to enhance the U.S. Defense Industrial Base's access to trusted, state-of-the-art microelectronics.
  • Lead or support business development initiatives, crafting technical solutions and innovative concepts for capture efforts (e.g., BAAs, RFPs).
  • Oversee a microelectronics design team focused on designing, integrating, and testing complex DSP FPGA designs for EW sensor systems.
  • Collaborate with engineers, scientists, policy makers, and executives from government, industry, and academia nationwide.
  • Provide technical and field support as required to ensure smooth operations.
  • Conduct experimental tests on the latest SoC evaluation boards, analyze results, and establish specifications for selecting next-generation components for our systems.
  • Engage with customers, suppliers, and functional peer groups to ensure alignment and collaboration.
  • Prepare for occasional travel and work at remote locations as needed.
  • Communicate findings through briefings and written materials to your team, customers, and management.
  • Offer strategic technical advice that influences client outcomes and supports Leidos' business objectives.
  • Develop new solutions and operational plans that enhance Leidos' competitive edge in the market.
  • Mentor and coach junior technical staff to foster growth and development.
  • Act as Principal Investigator on complex, multi-disciplinary programs, including field demonstrations of real-time hardware systems.
  • Serve as Technical Lead for multi-disciplinary proposals, guiding the team towards success.

Basic Qualifications

  • Masters degree with 15+ years of relevant experience or Doctorate with 13+ years of relevant experience.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI level clearance.
  • Proven leadership skills in managing complex, multi-disciplinary technical teams or projects.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in DSP fundamentals and FPGA implementation.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink for signal processing tasks.
  • Familiarity with EDA tools and flows (Synopsys, Cadence, etc.) used in microelectronics design.
  • Microelectronics hardware subject matter expertise in at least one of the following areas and experience in one additional area:
    • Microelectronics Supply Chain: hardware verification/security/trust, vendor selection/qualification/audit, domestic foundry procurement.
    • Wafer-Level Design: digital, RF, or mixed signal circuit design, modeling, and simulation.
    • Chip-Scale Design: device packaging design/layout, substrate/interposer design, and related modeling.
    • Hardware Programming: FPGA programming (Verilog, VHDL) and familiarity with scripting/programming languages like Python, C++, and Java.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience in idea generation and program capture (proposals, white papers, etc.).
  • Background in a fast-paced Research and Development (R&D) environment.
  • Possession of an active TS or TS/SCI clearance is a plus.

This role plays a crucial part in our mission to support and innovate the defense technologies. Join us and be part of a team that makes a significant impact.
