Purpose Statement: The District Lead Counselor will enhance student success by developing and implementing a comprehensive district-wide school counseling program that addresses the academic, career, and interpersonal needs of all students. This role involves providing leadership and support to district counselors, career center specialists, and counseling support staff.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Program Management: Oversee the implementation of the district's comprehensive counseling program, ensuring it aligns with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) standards, Arizona state standards, and district guidelines.
  • Student Support: Facilitate programs for academic success, college and career readiness, and interpersonal development.
  • Career Development: Collaborate with Academic Services and Career Technical Education to implement the district's career literacy program, while leading the development and implementation of the district's student Education and Career Action Plan (ECAP).
  • Professional Development: Provide leadership and professional development for school counselors, including training on crisis management, college and career readiness, and data interpretation. Additionally, train, monitor and mentor new high school counselors.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with administrators, parents, and community partners to address student needs and concerns. Represent the district on advisory boards and committees of relevant community partner organizations.
  • Data Management: Develop systems to monitor and track student progress in areas such as academic performance, attendance, and college/career readiness.
  • Policy and Procedure: Collaborate with district leadership to uphold district policies and develop school counseling and academic procedures that ensure consistency across all high schools.
  • Support Transition Activities: Support and lead college and career readiness initiatives through district transition activities and events, including the transition from 8th grade to high school and from high school to postsecondary education.
  • Advocate: Advocate for students and school counselors at the district level during the creation, modification, and development of policies and procedures.
  • Communicate: Effectively communicate all pertinent information to professional groups. Maintain an internal portal for Counselors, Career Center Specialists, and Records Specialists, providing relevant information and procedures.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
  • Knowledge of American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Mindsets and Behaviors for Student Success
  • Knowledge of college and career readiness and career development.
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of applicable Peoria Unified School District and departmental policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of appropriate personal and vocational counseling strategies.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, the public and others having business with the school district.
  • Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education (Minimum): A Master's Degree in School Counseling or related field is required.
  • Certificates: Standard K-12 School Counseling Certificate required.
  • Experience: A minimum of five years of experience as a school counselor, with evidence of successful leadership in school counseling.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and have a valid and current IVP fingerprint clearance card at the time of hire
