The Job

This Public Safety Specialist Sr. role is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of our campus community. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a diverse population, responding to calls for service and enforcing district rules and regulations. This role requires a high level of discretion and professionalism, as the successful candidate will be dealing with sensitive and confidential information on a daily basis.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will provide lead work direction to non-law enforcement personnel, respond to campus incidents and emergencies, administer first aid as needed, patrol campus grounds and parking lots, issue traffic warnings and/or citations, open and secure buildings, classrooms, and offices, monitor college equipment and property in routine patrols, utilize police communication equipment, may perform dispatch duties, maintain confidentiality of work-related information and material, prepare accurate and complete various reports (written and/or computerized), report unsafe working conditions and behavior, and take reasonable and prudent actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices. The successful candidate will also provide training and orientation to newly assigned personnel and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must possess a High School Diploma or GED and four years of related public safety or security experience. A valid State of Arizona Class D Driver's License is also required. Possession of a comprehensive background check, including fingerprinting with the AZDPS, is mandatory. Preferred qualifications include two or more years of experience working in an educational institution within the public safety/security department, responding to critical and emergency situations, handheld radios and radio communication, enforcing policies and procedures in the workplace, computer skills/experience which include Google Workspace and Microsoft Suite, customer service, and providing supervision to employees.

Working Conditions

Positions in this class typically require standing, walking, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body. Working Conditions: Rotating shift work is performed in the field with moderate exposure to hazardous materials (such as blood or other body fluids); frequent exposure to environmental conditions (such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or uncertain environment); and moderate exposure to extreme temperatures.
