The Opportunity:

We are looking for a versatile, curious, and upbeat Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join our team of hardworking and dedicated engineers. We are the backbone for Data Engineering and Machine Learning developments at Visa, and we thrive on solving sophisticated challenges on a global scale As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer, you will be an integral part of a multi-functional development team who is inventing, designing, building, and testing products that reach a truly global customer base.

The Work Itself:

The Senior Machine Learning Engineer, as a part of our Generative AI team, will play a multifaceted role in the design, development, and deployment of our Large Language Model (LLM) applications. Key responsibilities will include crafting applications based on the Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) framework, developing efficient algorithms, and fine-tuning the LLM to cater to various applications.

This role will also involve using various machine learning stacks to improve our systems efficiency, researching new techniques to advance our LLM applications, and collaborating multi-functional teams within the organization. In addition, the engineer will be responsible for documenting processes and workflows and sharing insights with the team.

This position requires a solid understanding of AI and machine learning principles, robust problem-solving skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborate with project team members (Product Managers, Architects, Analysts, Software Engineers, Project Managers, etc.) to ensure development and implementation of new data driven business solutions.
  • Drive development effort End-to-End for on-time delivery of high quality solutions that conform to requirements, conform to the architectural vision, and comply with all applicable standards.
  • Collaborate with senior technical staff and PM to identify, document, plan contingency, track and manage risks and issues until all are resolved.
  • Present technical solutions, capabilities, considerations, and features in business terms.
  • Effectively communicate status, issues, and risks in a precise and timely manner.

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • 2 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD, or PhD)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or more than 2 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD)
  • Exposure to innovative areas such as Machine Learning, Big Data, Distributed Systems or SRE.
  • Experience in at least one of the following: Golang, Java, or C/C++
  • Familiarity with web service standards and related patterns (REST, gRPC)
  • Experience implementing solutions for low-latency, distributed services using open standard technologies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication (both written and verbal) skills
  • Ability to present sophisticated ideas in a clear & concise way and is a team player with good work ethics
Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 113,000.00 to 159,550.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
