POSITION TITLE: OPTOMETRY TECHNICIAN FLSA: NON-EXEMPT

REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • High School Graduate/GED
  • One year of experience as customer service in optometry or medical clinic.
  • Medical terminology preferred
  • Able to operate a variety of medical equipment such as autorefractor, tonometer, fundus photography, and lensometer.
  • Ability to multi-task and have high attention to detail.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

  • Prepares patients for vision examination, using a variety of instruments, such as an autorefractor, tonometer, fundus photo camera, and a lensometer.
  • Assist in the purchasing of eyeglass orders and taking measurements as needed.
  • Maintains records, schedules appointments, assists with optometry referrals, and files correspondence.
  • Helps in the care and use of eyeglasses including repairs and adjustments.
  • Maintains optometric equipment to include inventory and ordering of all cleaning materials.
  • Maintains open communication with Optometrist and optometric Coordinator.
  • Put in requests for authorizations for replacement glasses and medical office visits as needed.
  • Intakes, verify prescriptions, and dispenses all eyeglass orders received.
  • Assists patients with self-pay process verifying insurance eligibility generating claims for billing insurance plans.
  • Other duties as assigned.
