Summary:
Designs and develops processes for customer products and manufacturing tooling. Performs medium to high complexity design assignments. Develop, implement, and maintain processes, process controls, new materials evaluations, and automated equipment used in the packaging and assembly of Hi-Reliability hybrid electronics. Interface with suppliers and customers to resolve material or process related production issues and concerns. Support of Internal Design Reviews, Program Readiness Reviews, Design for Manufacturability, New Product Development. Ability to communicate complex technical issues both in writing and orally to multiple levels of management as well as to production operators.

Responsibilities:

  • Bachelor or Master Degree in Electro Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience developing assembly processes for microelectronic components.
  • 5+ years of experience directly supporting microelectronic component manufacturing operations.
  • Experience with die attach, wire bonding, flip chip, under-fill process, encapsulation, hermetic sealing and packaging process solutions is required.
  • Strong software knowledge - quality analysis tools, machine automation programming, Microsoft Office.
  • Hands on assembly equipment programming and troubleshooting experience preferred.
  • Experience applying problem-solving skills, statistical analysis, process control, and DOE design of experiments principles.
  • Experience with electronic materials, including conductive/non-conductive epoxies, solders, encapsulants, and underfills.
  • Experience selecting, specifying, and qualifying manufacturing equipment.
  • Process development experience is highly desired.
  • Project management experience is desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills. Be able to communicate complex technical issues both in writing and orally to multiple levels of management, customers as well as to production operators.
  • Provides basic process design and documentation for customer products and/or related tooling, resulting in a product or tooling that supports the manufacturing environment, if applicable, to meet both the customers' requirements and the Benchmark manufacturing support groups' requirements
  • Develops basic diagrams of components and assemblies
  • Makes engineering computations and write/edit specifications
  • Creates modified basic designs for new or existing products and tooling
  • Verifies completed work, checking dimensions, materials to be used and quantities per the verification plan
  • Interacts with vendors to ensure proper fabrication of mechanical components for product, testers and tooling
  • Assists assembly of tooling and prototypes
  • Performs basic design duties such as tolerance analysis, material selection and selection of fabrication methods
  • Provides assistance to the Hardware Design, Software Design, PCB Design, Functional Test and ICT test for product, test and tooling development
  • Contacts and works with vendors to understand Customer and BEI requirements
  • Follows project plan and reports project status to leadership
  • Develops project proposals and associated cost estimates
  • Performs DFX reviews; Creates necessary documentation
  • Develops an understanding of Design for Excellence philosophy; Promote with customers
  • Communicates with customer technical personnel regarding technical issues
  • Communicates technical challenges and work with peers to create and implement solutions
  • Works with customers to understand requirements regarding mechanical design
  • Works with Sustaining Engineering (product, process, test and quality) to develop products that leverage Benchmarks manufacturing and test processes
  • Participates in the development of advanced/new technologies related to plastics and machined parts and processes
  • Drives and lead research and development for new design methods and tools
  • Provides research and development for new design methods and tools
  • Assists in the coordination of process engineering strategies for Benchmark customers
  • Develops and maintains the process for Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
  • Creates and validates detailed mechanical component drawings from others using industry standard drafting practices
  • Participates in continuous improvement activities with complete documentation, including a follow up review with the team in a presentation format
  • Provides intermediate level process design and documentation for customer products and/or related tooling, resulting in a product or tooling that supports the manufacturing environment, if applicable, to meet both the customers' requirements and the Benchmark manufacturing support groups' requirements
  • Develops intermediate level diagrams of components and assemblies
  • Leads less experienced engineers in best practices
  • Creates new or modified designs for new or existing products and tooling
  • Performs intermediate level design duties such as tolerance analysis, material selection and selection of fabrication methods
  • Provides complex level process design and documentation for customer products and/or related tooling, resulting in a product or tooling that supports the manufacturing environment, if applicable, to meet both the customers' requirements and the Benchmark manufacturing support groups' requirements
  • Develops complex level diagrams of components and assemblies
  • Performs complex level design duties such as tolerance analysis, material selection and selection of fabrication methods
  • Initiates concepts for solving the most complex engineering problems
  • Prepares technical presentations for customers

* Demonstrate knowledge of material selection for manufacturing customer products, tooling and test fixtures
* Ability to support a 24/7 global business operation as required

* 4 year Engineering or Technical Degree (Manufacturing or Electrical Engineer) preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience as approved by senior management
* 8 years of manufacturing engineering experience
* Expert in advanced technologies and applications; ASQ certified
* Demonstrate a superior understanding of Design for Excellence (DFX) philosophy and promote with customers
