The philosophies and concepts behind the service design of the STAY draw from both evidence-based and evidence-informed best practices. STAY utilizes principles from the Transition to Independence model (TIP) for working with TAY; the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP); and Assertive Community Treatment (ACT). Additionally, co-occurring disorders are normative in this population, and therefore all staff receives education in concepts related to co-occurring complexity such as Motivational Interviewing. Individually designed services support participants to gain the skills, knowledge, and abilities to move successfully into adult life. Through their engagement in program services, participants learn to imagine and develop aspirations for the future. Our staff work with participants to establish a collaborative relationship and develop a service plan that centers around demonstrated needs, motivation, and attainable life goals. Staff provides a wide variety of supportive services designed to promote participant stability in their own community: mental health services; medication support; vocational/employment support and skills building; and educational and health linkages are all important elements of a comprehensive treatment. To support participants with gaining employment, STAY utilizes the Individual Placement and Supports (IPS) model to assist participants with accessing and maintaining competitive employment within their communities.

Join our team as: Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

What You Will Do

The STAY Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner works closely with a multidisciplinary team to provide medication support services to young adults with mental illness to increase their level of functioning in residential, home, community and school settings. In addition to medication support services, The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner provides diagnostic consultation, collaborates closely with other team members, prescribes psychotropic medication, and documents all services provided. In collaboration with the rest of the team, the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is active in supporting and implementing individualized, strengths-based, culturally responsive, participant/family-centered approaches to treatment.

Shifts Available
Part Time 30-35hrs per Week- TBD

Salary RangeIn accordance with California law, the expected salary range for this position is between $58.56 and $95.38 per hour. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.

Additional Benefits:
  • Supervision/consultation, both individual (Medical Director) and group (group is comprised of med support team and the Medical Director).
  • If needed, you have 9 months from the date of hire to obtain your Furnishing License, DEA Schedule II Certificate and National Board Certification while employed and working with Participants (under the supervision of the Medical Director).
  • Reimbursement for Continuing Education Units not available as an elective or required training through the Fred Finch Training Department (limited funds available per year).
  • Initial and renewal DEA registration fees are reimbursed for NP staff.


What You Bring to The Table (requirements):Required
  1. Active, unrestricted CA RN license in good standing or an active, unrestricted CA NP Certificate (or Certificate Eligible) or a Master of Science or Master of Nursing degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  2. Successful completion of a graduate-level Psychiatric NP Specialty Program Accredited by the CA BRN (preferred); OR substantive clinical training. If graduated from a non-PNP program, individual will be supervised in their practice until deemed competent to function independently.
  3. Valid CA BRN issued Furnishing License (or able to obtain within 9 months of hire).
  4. Valid DEA Schedule II certificate (or DEA Number eligible) (or able to obtain within 9 months of hire).
  5. National Board Certification in nursing required (or Board Eligible with testing for certification within 6 - 12 months of licensure or hiring, whichever is later).
  6. One or more years of experience in the specialty field of psychiatric nursing.
  7. Demonstrated cultural responsiveness in working with diverse families and communities.
  1. Demonstrated understanding of the developmental milestones of children, youth, or young adults to provide to provide care, treatment and services.
  2. Demonstrated ability to utilize de-escalation techniques that align with the trauma informed care model as part of intervention strategy for working with participants in crisis who are responding to triggers/stressors and/or demonstrating early indicators of distress.
  1. Clean driving record; current CA Driver's License or ability to obtain within 10 days after hire.
  2. Basic computer and keyboarding competence with the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite.
  3. Access to dependable transportation available and personal car insurance.
Preferred
  1. Certification in Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nursing.
  1. Experience with team-based models for assisting young adults with significant mental illness to live in the community.
  2. Knowledge in philosophies of community psychiatry, evidence-based practices (particularly ACT and Motivational Interviewing), recovery, resilience, family systems, and interdisciplinary team work, etc.
  3. Knowledge of theoretical and pharmacologic issues related to clinical treatment of common psychiatric disorders.
  4. Experience working with young adults utilizing strength-based therapeutic approaches.
  1. Fluency in prevailing language(s) of the community.
