General Description and Classification Standards

The Community Affairs Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the ACRB's mission statement and associated objectives and goals. The purpose of the position is to plan, develop, implement and direct highly visible and proactive community involvement programs and activities in order to ensure community awareness of the agency programs and to provide the community with an opportunity for input.

Supervision Received

Works under very general supervision. May work independently or with other workers with responsibility for completion of assigned tasks.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Establishes collaborative partnerships with city departments, community agencies and organizations, and individual citizens. Establishes working relationships and partnerships with external agencies and organizations.
  • Supports the implementation of the ACRB's community engagement plan and provide annual reviews and updates.
  • Proactively identifies opportunities to build relationships and establish dialogue with the community
  • Supports the Communications Specialist III and the Executive Director in developing relationships with external stakeholders and other entities in an effort to build ACRB brand
  • Develops and implements a direct referral system that provides community agencies and organizations a mechanism for referring citizens who may have law enforcement concerns.
  • Develops promotional opportunities for the dissemination of ACRB news and events.
  • Works closely to launch new initiatives with appropriate internal and external stakeholders
  • Conducts appropriate research and makes recommendations regarding appropriate external partnerships
  • Follows up with citizens as needed.
  • Develops linkages and relationships that enhance the quality of engagement with youth and the local communities, such as colleges, churches, non-profits, social organizations and associations.
  • Prepares monthly reports on stakeholder engagement activities and experiential events
  • Identifies opportunities to insert ACRB in existing community events
  • Develops and maintains a system for managing and responding to community needs, issues, and priorities
  • Develops and maintains database of vendors, community influencers and organizations
  • Works collaborative with communication team members to ensure success of all agency activities
  • Identifies community-based resources that could be used to facilitate coordination of agency community engagement activities and specific initiatives and creating ongoing partnering opportunities.
  • In conjunction with the Communications Specialist III, identify community-based resources that could be used to facilitate coordination of agency information by making use of television, newspapers, radio, transportation services, libraries, faith-based organizations, community service organizations, universities, etc., to run an extensive awareness campaign to inform the public of the need for support as well as the current programs available citizens.
  • Develop a directory of methods (strategies, activities, programs) for partnerships with shared stakeholders throughout the city.
  • Supports the creation or development of a timeline of events for the year that gives information about community programs that can coincide with events which are scheduled annually.
  • In conjunction with the Community Outreach Specialist, develop and implement workshops, seminars and forums which address timely topics.
  • Provide education related to agency work, services, and outcomes to the public
  • Research and write related materials that advise and encourage citizen involvement with the agency.
  • Represent the agency at city-wide meetings, community association meetings, and community events, including meetings with the APD
  • Identify important meetings and events and arrange attendance of needed agency staff
  • Report community problems or issues through proper internal protocols
  • Identify options and solutions to the issues raised by the community
  • Track cases that are of concern to the community
  • Promote agency events and distribute agency communication materials
  • Proactively identify opportunities to build relationships and establish dialogue with the community

  • Coordinates with internal departments for ensure successful event execution
  • Utilizes team budget tracker to monitor and manage costs of events
  • Keeps communications manager abreast of any issues developing in the community
  • Tracks NPU schedule and manages notes and feedback from NPU meetings
  • Takes direction from Communications Specialist III and Project Manager on social media postings as needed
  • Generate reports as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, marketing or related field; or comparable experience (equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the required degree on an exception basis)

1-3 years of experience in social media coordination, public relations and marketing.

1-year experience in public relations or work with a marketing agency

Preferred Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, marketing or related field; or comparable experience (equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the required degree on an exception basis)

4 + years' experience in social media coordination, public relations and marketing.

2 + years' experience in public relations or work with a marketing agency
