Position Overview

The Calibration Specialist B plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and precision of inspection, measurement, and test equipment across various disciplines including Acoustical, Chemical, Dimensional, DC/Low Frequency, RF/Microwave, Fluid, Mechanical, Optical, Thermodynamics, and Time & Frequency. Leveraging expertise in measurement science, mathematics, physics, and electronics, this position is vital for maintaining compliance with specifications through systematic calibration methodologies.

In this role, you will operate independently without the need for constant instruction, applying your job skills and adhering to company policies to tackle a diverse range of tasks. Your ability to resolve moderately complex challenges will be essential as you contribute to the seamless operation of our calibration processes.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Conduct calibration of inspection, measurement, and test equipment (IM&TE) in various disciplines to ensure adherence to published specifications.
  • Maintain and manage primary and/or intrinsic calibration standards as well as secondary and/or working calibration standards.
  • Perform troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of precision equipment.
  • Develop detailed calibration procedures and methods based on specifications, blueprints, and technical requirements.
  • Gather, compile, measure, summarize, and accurately record calibration data.
  • Identify and rectify out-of-tolerance conditions found in IM&TE through adjustments or replacements.
  • Prepare comprehensive calibration reports and certificates reflecting the accuracy of measurements.
  • Adapt calibration equipment and methods to tackle unique measurement challenges effectively.
  • Evaluate and analyze uncertainty in measurement processes and standards.
  • Train and mentor less experienced technicians in calibration principles and methodologies.
  • Collaborate effectively with fellow technicians, customer service representatives, account managers, and clients.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the team’s goals.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to perform basic math and algebra functions; understanding of basic statistics is essential.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a focus on technical writing.
  • Proficient troubleshooting and repair skills for precision equipment.
  • Intermediate computer skills and proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
  • A minimum of three years of calibration experience, with formal metrology training being a plus.
  • Familiarity with Quality Management systems including ISO 9001, ISO 17025, and ANSI Z540.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and customer service orientation.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a self-motivated work ethic.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while following established procedures.

Physical Demands

  • Must be capable of lifting up to 45 pounds without assistance.
  • Occasional standing and bending may be required.

Working Environment

This position is primarily located in a laboratory or manufacturing environment, and may require travel to various domestic and potentially international locations.
