Summary Statement
This full-time, tenure-track faculty position is responsible for teaching the Medical Laboratory Technician program core curricula. The instructor will participate in the recruitment and retention of students, selection of program materials and instructional resources, and be responsible for the ongoing development, assessment, and revision of the programs' curricula.

Essential Duties

  • Teach a designated number of credits each semester
  • Assess learning outcomes at the course, discipline, program and college levels
  • Advise and advocate for students to maximize student success and retention
  • Develop and update curricula, instructional materials and teaching delivery
  • Recruit and promote the program to students and the local community
  • Participate in shared governance, professional development and college and community service activities

Major Duties of Position

  • Be responsible for the development, assessment, and revision of the Medical Laboratory Technician program curricula
  • Ensure program and curriculum offerings are in full compliance with requirements for accreditation, certification, and other standards stipulated by appropriate external agencies
  • Recommend equipment, supplies, materials, and physical facilities to meet program needs and maintain operational all program equipment and facilities
  • Deliver student-centered courses, including distance-learning sections
  • Participate in student outcome assessment projects and work with the Health Sciences Externship & Clinical Coordinator to provide students with quality externship experiences
  • Participate in shared college governance activities, maintain an approved professional development plan, and serve the College in activities addressing departmental responsibilities, and/or community outreach, and/or student and campus-life activities

Education and Experience

Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university, current national certification through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification to include MLT, MLS, or MT, three years current work experience in a clinical/medical laboratory, and three years of teaching experience in post-secondary education. Knowledge of education theory, education methodology and the accreditation process for the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS).

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong organizational and writing skills, attention to detail, with excellent advising/counseling skills
  • Ability to establish good working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the community
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work, make decisions independently
  • Working knowledge of the Internet, discipline-specific software, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
