Job Title: HVAC Instructor
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced HVAC Instructor to join our team at Washington County Public Schools. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching students the fundamentals of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC), including the applications and techniques commonly used in the industry.
Responsibilities:
- Teach students the NCCER fundamentals of HVAC, including the applications and techniques commonly used in the industry.
- Instruct students using effective instructional strategies such as research projects, group discussions, cooperative learning, and project and problem-based learning.
- Examine careers in HVAC and effectively guide students through industry career exploration.
- Make industry connections for the purpose of facilitating real world experiences for students such as classroom guest speakers, job shadows, service learning, work-based learning, and apprenticeship.
- Administer assessments to monitor students' comprehension of content.
- Enhance course content in the form of remediation, modification, and enrichment.
Requirements:
- Eligibility for MSDE teacher certification in Technology Education or Professional and Technical Education field.
- Understanding of the goals of Washington County Public Schools and a commitment to their achievement.
- Positive interpersonal and communication skills with students, staff, and parents.
- Understanding of the teaching/learning/assessment process.
- Knowledge of materials in field of specialization.
- Knowledge and use of technology for instruction.
- Excellent oral and written communications and human relations skills.
- Knowledge of current research and its application in field of specialization.
- Maintain regular, on-time attendance.
- Able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without accommodations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of customer service, working with large groups and planning/managing events.
- Knowledge of new technology trends in the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning field.
- Understanding and commitment to Youth Apprenticeship in Maryland.
- Experience with NCCER HVAC Certification.
- Achieved at minimum a Journeyman HVAC Technician status.
Environmental Factors & Physical/Mental Requirements:
- Required prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer and other office equipment.
- Ability to sufficiently move throughout the building and grounds.
- Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with individuals as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear.
- Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Ability to travel district-wide and state-wide if needed.
- Ability to work prolonged and irregular hours.
Evaluation: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
