Medical Laboratory Scientist

The Medical Laboratory Scientist will perform laboratory procedures in a timely and accurate manner according to established hospital and departmental policies and procedures. This position handles functional duties in the Pre-Analytic, Analytic, and Post-Analytic phases in the Laboratory Path of Workflow. The role may require sharing responsibility to delegate work assignments for self and co-workers in the absence of a supervisor or lead. Compliance with CLIA standards, as listed under 42CFR493.1495 for high complexity testing and 42CFR493.1425 for moderate complexity testing personnel, is mandatory.
Responsibilities- Perform laboratory procedures accurately and promptly according to hospital and departmental policies.
- Handle duties in the Pre-Analytic, Analytic, and Post-Analytic phases in the Laboratory Path of Workflow.
- Share responsibility for delegating work assignments in the absence of a supervisor or lead.
- Ensure compliance with CLIA standards for high and moderate complexity testing.
- Bachelor’s degree and successful completion of a Medical Technology program accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA).
- Alternatively, a Bachelor’s of Science degree in a laboratory related science such as Biology or Chemistry with equivalent training, education, and experience (such as military).
- One year of full-time clinical laboratory experience (clinical laboratory experience gained during the accredited Medical Technology program will satisfy this requirement).
- Working knowledge of general types of laboratory equipment (centrifuge, microscope, etc.) and familiarity with LIS, calculators, fax, and auto analyzers.
- Basic computer skills.
- Experience in blood bank, hematology, oncology, microbiology, and molecular biology.
- Familiarity with state-of-the-art facility and software in a rapidly growing lab.
Work in a very clean, state-of-the-art lab full of efficient and social professionals. The lab is growing rapidly and offers a well-functioning working environment with advanced technology and software. Monday through Friday 6:30 AM to 3:30 PM, rotating weekend shifts.
