Position Summary

The Trauma Performance Improvement Supervisor (TPIS) is responsible for overseeing the Trauma Program Department, including
team member performance and administrative oversight of the area. In conjunction with the Trauma Program Manager, the TPIS
provides guidance and direction on all aspects of department operations including customer experience, budgetary performance,
human resources activities, shared leadership, and quality data outcomes. The TPIS assists the Trauma Program Nurse Manager in
monitoring process and outcome issues using predefined indicators, implementation of corrective actions, and loop closure.

Responsibilities
• Coordinates with the Trauma Program Manager and Human Resources as indicated on corrective action, progressive discipline,
and career advancement.
• Investigates event reports and provides feedback to both Trauma Program Manager and team members.
• Oversight of schedules for the unit to ensure the proper mix of staff are available each shift to provide appropriate department
coverage to meet regulatory standards.
• Participates in the recruitment and selection of new team members for the unit through interviews, peer selection, and
evaluation of candidates.
• Maintains oversight of department workflow and intervenes as indicated to achieve expected outcomes.
• Performs Nurse Leader rounds and reviews, to identify variance from best practice and regulatory or hospital standards.
• Participates in process/quality improvement initiatives to improve outcomes and standard work.
• Participates and/or leads staff meetings, GEMBA board, or huddles; demonstrates ownership of unit and outcomes.
• Performs performance improvement reviews and registrar abstraction as required to meet operational needs.
• Respects the rights and privacy of others and holds staff member information in strict confidence.
• Ensures trauma reviews are completed appropriately and follows up with events as needed.
• Assists the trauma program team with concurrent data abstracting, analysis, and report development while monitoring
outcomes to ensure quality and timely care.
• Identifies trends in data and quality to provide opportunities in care and follow up on discussed actions needed for
improvement within the trauma program.
• Analyzes complex reports for regulatory agencies and internal purposes in a timely and accurate manner.
• Functions as a resource to Orlando Health in healthcare regulations, standards of care, and clinical performance improvement.
• Monitors compliance and outcomes to identify issues and trends and leads the team on process/quality improvement
initiatives.
• Ensures practice changes are evidence-based, promote high-quality inter-disciplinary practice, and are consistent with research,
organization, and national standards.
• Manages time and resources efficiently to maximize unit/department productivity.
• Promotes cost effective management of equipment and supplies.
• Assist in preparation for all regulatory site surveys.
• Assist in coordination of trauma outreach, injury prevention, and education programs as needed.

Qualifications

Education
Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN) required.
Licensure/Certification
• Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Florida or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).
• Trauma Nurse Core Course or equivalent required within one year of hire.
Experience
• Four (4) years clinical experience and one (1) year of leadership experience; or 2 years of Trauma PI Nurse Experience.
• Intermediate computer skills required with additional knowledge of MS Word and Excel.
