Position Summary:
**7C Neurotrauma Acute Care Unit** trains nurses to work in the advancing field of the Neuro and Trauma service line. We are a 24-bed unit that serves patients that have a diagnosis of **stroke, traumatic brain injury (TBI), spinal cord injury, spinal fractures, amputation, seizure disorders, multiple sclerosis (MS), blunt trauma injuries (BFT) and neuromuscular diseases**.

Neuro-trauma is a **fascinating field** that is advancing patient treatments and interventions to positively impact our community. **Rapid growth** within neuro and trauma service line affords **unlimited growth opportunities**, while building the foundation of your clinical skills and knowledge **Mentorship programs** that will gain you entry into higher level of care units like the Emergency Room, Neuro Stepdown/ ICU, and Trauma Stepdown/ ICU

The nurse extern performs general patient care such as, hygiene, mobility, nutrition, and increased/constant observation in a basic role with the guidance, mentoring, and oversight of the Registered Nurse.

**Responsibilities**:
Essential Functions
- Provides routine treatments and interventions consistent with the educational level and skills learned in the academic environment and demonstrated competency through Orlando Health.
- Performs advanced skills after achievement of demonstrated competencies such as: nasogastric tube irrigation, suctioning, and removal; wound irrigation; complex dressing change; maintenance of enteral tube feeding (Dobhoff, Nasogastric, and Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy); and tracheostomy care.
- Assists patients with hygiene, mobility, and nutritional needs.
- Communicates appropriate information regarding the patient’s condition to the registered nurse (RN) and other members of the healthcare team.
- Participates in handoff report and purposeful hourly rounding on patients.
- Documents information according to Orlando Health specific policies and guidelines.
- Possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status.
- Interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education/Training
- Enrolled in Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) degree or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program.
- Preparing to enter final two semesters/quarter of nursing program.
- Proof of continued enrollment in pre-licensure, professional nursing program with no break in enrollment to exceed one year.

Licensure/Certification
- Maintains current BLS/Healthcare provider certification.
