PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Leads and directs efforts related to the implementation, maintenance, management, and troubleshooting of the District's student information system (SIS). Assists with technical leadership and training to district stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education/Certification:

Bachelor's Degree, preferred or previous years district/administrative level

implementation, support, and management of a district-wide SIS.

Previous experience working directly with district-level SIS management

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Extensive knowledge of the Texas Education Data Standards (TEDS), Student Attendance Accounting Handbook (SAAH) and Texas Student Data System (TSDS)

Extensive knowledge of Skyward

Effective written and oral communication skills

Ability to maintain accurate and auditable records

Ability to meet established deadlines

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Ability to train staff in small and large group settings preferred

Ability to work well with others

Customer-centered and service-oriented

Knowledge of Skyward with the understanding of all modules (attendance, demographics, master scheduling, reporting academic planning, etc.)

Ability to work well with all levels of the district

Demonstrated experience planning, testing, and implementing application updates and releases and maintaining system setup & configurations required

Advanced skills using Microsoft Excel with the ability to perform advanced functions, such as VLOOKUP and creating pivot tables required

Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to independently research, assess, interpret, and validate data required

Minimum Experience:

Previous year's campus/district-level experience in student information systems

Experience developing training materials and presentations

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Provide application support for student information system functionality.
  1. Prepare and distribute documented procedures, including but not limited to, timelines, and data entry and prepare and distribute documented student information setup procedures, including but limited to timelines data entry, and reporting.
  1. Assist with training programs for central administration and campus level personnel, administrative and clerical, with respect to the student information system.
  1. Assist users in obtaining necessary reports via data mining and data warehouse systems
  1. Coordinate/Direct the development and maintenance of administrative software systems for the student information system.
  1. Produce attendance, discipline, special populations, etc. reports and data analysis as needed
  1. Provide appropriate student data reports to district and campus personnel as needed
  1. Utilize research and diagnostic problem-solving techniques to resolve problems
  2. Develop and maintain a strong sense of customer service. Communicate with various stakeholders including campus and district personnel.
  3. Receive SIS-related information and software updates and disseminate them to stakeholders in a timely manner, provide training as needed
  1. Attend staff development appropriate to job responsibilities and disseminate to other staff in a timely manner
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES CONTINUED:
  1. Coordinate communication with software vendor representatives regarding SIS questions. Serve as a liaison between vendor and district personnel.
  1. Assist with training and informational sessions for campus and district administrative staff for grading, scheduling, grade book, report cards, and attendance
  1. Maintain a working knowledge of the SIS system, including updates and enhancements
  1. Provide support by answering stakeholder questions about the SIS system and functionality
  1. Work in collaboration with SIS Senior System Analyst to provide systems analysis and configuration of the student information system
  1. Interact with stakeholders, via phone or e-mail, to provide responses to inquiries and troubleshoot issues by evaluating and analyzing the symptoms
  1. Train and provide application support to users and internal team members
  1. Review, recommend, plan, and implement new student information system solutions
  1. Support system configuration changes and new configuration requirements including configuration analysis, design, build, and test
  1. Identify and assess system issues, develop and test recommended solutions, and create project plans with timelines
  1. Collect, document, and maintain requirements needed to meet stakeholder objectives
  1. Determine the severity of issues and prioritize open issues. Identify, escalate and redirect priority issues to others as needed
  1. Maintain application system security
  1. Develop an understanding of customer processes and standard operating procedures
  1. Research issues by self-investigating and collaborating with other internal resources when a solution is not readily available
  1. Meet with stakeholders to gather requirements for enhancement requests
