Job Summary

The Crisis Intervention Peer Support Specialist works alongside social workers and law enforcement as part of the Henderson Mobile Crisis Intervention Team (MCIT). In this role, you and the other MCIT team members will respond directly to individuals experiencing behavioral health crisis following an emergency call. You will work collaboratively with the other MCIT team members to provide compassionate and professional wrap-around services, mentorship and support, and assistance with linking individuals to community resources and support.

As one of two full-time Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialists on the MCIT team, you’ll work directly with individuals following a behavioral health crisis to provide personalized mentorship, coaching, and guidance to help individuals find and maintain recovery from substance use and mental health conditions. You’ll provide support to individuals in one-on-one peer support coaching sessions, help individuals develop a recovery plan, provide timely follow-up and courtesy check-ins with individuals, coordinate transportation for individuals to community resources, and lead peer-based peer support groups and mutual-aid meetings.

This position requires completion of a Peer Recovery Support Specialist training, approved by the Nevada Certification Board. Applicants must hold a current CPRSS state certification credential through the Nevada Certification Board.

Job Qualifications

Education: Minimum of a High School Diploma or Equivalent

Education: Completion of a Peer Support Specialist Training approved by the Nevada Certification Board

Certified as a Peer Recovery Support Specialist by the Nevada Certification Board

2 years of prior experience with standard office practices and procedures, including office etiquette, records management and use of case management or electronic health record system, and using computer programs such as Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.

2 years of customer service experience

2 years of experience working with people with behavioral health disorders and individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds

1-2 years of experience using electronic health records or case management database

Must understand and adhere to the Nevada Certification Board's code of ethics for Peer Recovery Support Specialists, federal and state confidentiality laws and regulations, and Nevada mandatory reporting laws and regulations

1-2 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Continuing education or training in harm reduction, trauma-informed care, peer support ethics, confidentiality, motivational interviewing, suicide prevention, mandatory reporting, or others.

Prior experience facilitating support groups, group activities, trainings, and/or workshops.

Essential Functions

Manage incoming requests and inbound referrals to the Mobile Crisis Intervention Team.

Completes various assessments, surveys, interviews, and other data collection methods to track outcomes of individuals served.

Educate participants about local recovery resources, social service and health providers, other treatment and recovery options, harm reduction tools and strategies, and local resources.

Manages ride scheduling for individuals to access community providers and resources

Data entry and recording in case management system

Be the key to health activation by listening to the needs, fears, and goals of the individuals you serve and educating on how to access and engage in the health system

Facilitate whole health and recovery support groups

Support individuals with identifying whole health and recovery goals and developing plans to achieve those goals

Support individuals with the planning of their recovery program, and provide motivation to assist individuals with reaching their goals

Provide individualized support, empowerment, and encouragement to individuals through coaching and everyday interactions

Offer recovery management strategies and tools; like journaling, breathing and mindfulness techniques, among others

Offer harm reduction strategies and tools; like Narcan, fentanyl test strips, disease prevention strategies

Listen to individuals' barriers; assist with removing barriers through linkages to resources and other programs

Share and model personal resilience and recovery experiences, when appropriate, acting as a role model for members

Provide regular communication to individuals through phone, text, and in-person follow-ups and check-ins

Maintain clear and concise documentation using the organization's case management software

Complete all necessary data collection, reporting, and documentation related to the program requirements

Prepare program, grant, and caseload reports as needed

Understand and adhere to all state and federal confidentiality laws and regulations

Other duties as assigned

Work Environment

Our employees work in a supportive and collaborative office environment. This position is full-time and based in the City of Henderson at Henderson City Hall 240 S. Water St., Henderson NV 89015. Foundation for Recovery will provide all the tools necessary to perform the duties of the position.

Physical Demands

Required to standing, walking, siting, and driving for extended periods of time; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms. Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision and the ability to adjust focus. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

Job Details and Salary

Full-time hourly, non-exempt employee

Four 10-hour shift schedule, E.g. Monday - Thursday 7 am - 5 pm

Fringe benefits, including health, vision, and dental insurance available after 90 days of employment.

Salary: $25 per hour commensurate with experience
