Anchorage, United States Kinross Gold Full time

The Manh Choh Project is a greenfield gold deposit in eastern Alaska being developed with ore being hauled to Kinross' Fort Knox mine north of Fairbanks for processing. The mine site is located in the Tetlin Hills, approximately 250 miles southeast of Fort Knox and 10 miles southeast of Tok. Production is expected to begin in 2024.

Job Summary

Ability to complete routine sampling, inspections, and opacity readings with minimal supervision. Familiarity with site permits, plans, and pertinent regulations along with EPA guidance. Responsible for completing work in accordance with the Manh Choh procedures, pertinent regulations, and EPA guidance documents. Responsible for safe and efficient operation of sampling equipment, vehicles, loaders, and forklifts. Interact, train, and communicate effectively with other departments to assist with environmental compliance is an essential function of the position.

Essential Functions

  • Inspect maintenance areas, camp facilities, construction areas, and monitor wildlife and habitat on thesite for compliance. Report to corresponding department of any deficiencies.
  • Collect quarterly surface and groundwater samples.
  • Conduct and record monthly opacity readings using EPA Method 9 federal standards.
  • Complete various internal and external reports.
  • Provide staff assistance to operation and maintenance personnel.
  • Meet or exceed established performance expectations set by management.
  • Compliance with all company policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, safety,confidentiality, and environmental policies.
  • Work safely in all areas, identify potential safety hazards, and work with management to correct hazards.
  • Work without significant risk of harm to self and others.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications and Skill Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Employee must have sufficient education to read and writeinstructions, perform simple mathematical calculations, and keep records.
  • One year experience in environmental profession preferred.
  • Possess a working knowledge of basic compliance procedures as relates to site permits.
  • Must have or gain an understanding of sampling procedures, safety rules, company policies, emergencyprocedures, MSHA requirements, environmental regulations and guidance documents.
  • Must maintain required certification for opacity readings.
  • Must have solid computer skills including word processing and spreadsheet programs.
  • Must have solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with others in a team environment.
  • Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.
  • Must be available for shift work, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the state.
  • Progression through wage scale is contingent upon satisfactory completion of attached checklists.
