The Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) will work under the direction of the Clinical Care Manager to provide high-quality care for our sanctuary residents. The Licensed Veterinary Technician will monitor patients before, during, and after surgery and work collaboratively with the Medical Operations Team and the Animal Care staff to address medical concerns across the Sanctuary.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Under supervision of the Veterinarian administer medications, anesthesia drugs, and prepare animals for surgery.
  • Monitor surgery patients from the induction of anesthesia until recovery; assess patient readiness for discharge and supervise patient discharges and communicate with staff regarding patient post-surgery care.
  • Cross-train and assist the Clinical Care Manager and Assistant Manager in all their associated duties as requested, including managing clinic schedules, inventory management, preparing surgical rooms, surgical assists, administering medications, updating SOPs, preparing internal communications to teams, updating medical records and maintaining a sanitary clinic environment. This position will act as the backup to the Clinical Care Manager and Assistant Manager during periods of absence, such as vacations, conference attendance, etc.
  • Perform regularly scheduled rounds with each species to ensure that prescribed medical care regiments are carried out, and document care staff concerns and observations while providing timely updates on each animal's progress to the Clinical Care Manager.
  • Act as a secondary point of contact for medical emergencies and coordinate with veterinary staff in a timely manner to ensure that emergency situations are handled appropriately, including sharing emergency transport responsibilities with the animal care team as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
Required Skills/Qualifications:
  • Must be licensed by the State of Washington as a Veterinary Technician.
  • Must have 2+ years of experience in a veterinary setting
  • Have exceptional communication skills; be willing and able to work effectively and compassionately with all personality types from all walks of life.
  • Be professional, positive, and remain calm during stressful situations.
  • Be comfortable working at a fast pace as well as standing on your feet for long stretches of time.
  • Must have passion for animal welfare and compassion for all animals, with the drive and devotion to end pet over-population and the over-crowding in area shelters.
  • Possess exceptional organizational skills - attention to detail and ability to prioritize are a must.
  • Must be driven to meet/exceed goals, be a self-starter, able to prioritize effectively, possess exceptional organizational skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, and be able to write legibly.
  • Be able to lift 40lbs independently.
Employment Details:
  • Regular Full-Time, Non-Exempt (40 hours per week)
  • Onsite at our Sanctuary in Monroe, WA
  • Occasional weekend coverage may be required
  • Salary range $24-40, starting salary range: $24-28
