PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITY:

Provide collaborative primary health care to obstetrical and gynecological patients. Provide in-service education for nursing staff. Participate in residents' education and programming as agreed with medical faculty.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

% (percentage time spent) NOTE: Percentages listed below represent approximate time spent, by responsibility, and are subject to change as departmental/organizational requirements dictate.

90% Clinical Outpatient:
  • Provide collaborative primary health care to obstetrical and gynecological patients, including: history and physical exam with Pap smears, cervical and vaginal cultures, vaginal smears;
  • order appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests as indicated;
  • manage common gynecological problems such as sexually transmitted diseases, vaginitis, urinary tract infections, abnormal vaginal bleeding, amenorrhea, abnormal Pap smears and endometrial biopsy;
  • provide, prescribe and manage appropriate contraceptive measures consistent with clinical skill;
  • prescribe antibiotics, analgesics and selected other medications according to protocols, standing orders and approved formulary; provide ambulatory obstetrical care in accordance with protocols.
  • Training will be provided to learn specifics for caring for patients with advanced vulvar skin conditions and sexual pain disorders.
10% Administrative:
  • Provide nursing education and participate in residents' education as agreed with medical faculty.
  • Assure quality and safe service for patients and staff by complying with policies, procedures, standards, rules, AAAHC requirements, and legal regulations; participate in utilization reviews.
  • Enhance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; explore opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Program Development. Confer and work with staff on matters regarding proper and efficient operation of the clinical facility and program; take an active role in the development of policies and standards for patient care.
  • Professional Development. May conduct or participate in research activities; updates professional knowledge on a continuing basis; may be asked to prepare and present professional reports, from time to time.
  • Support MAHEC's ethical and mutually respectful work environment by:
    • performing all job-related responsibilities in a manner consistent with MAHEC's Compliance policies and Standards of Conduct
    • completing all Compliance training in a timely manner
    • reporting any concerns or perceived Compliance violations to their supervisor and/or the Compliance Office in a timely manner

SPECIFIED SKILLS

COMPUTER
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database applications required.
FOREIGN LANGUAGE
  • Spanish speaking skills preferred.
Minimum Qualifications.
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Program
  • 3 years of experience working as a NP or PA in an OBGYN clinic
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Excellent administrative, planning and communication skills. Ability to function independently. Interest in psychosocial issues, dermatology, office based procedures and sexual health.
Required Licenses.
  • Nurse Practitioner Certification or PA-C certification licensed in the state of NC
  • Active DEA number


REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Position reports to the Medical Director, MAHEC Department of OB/Gyn.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Position requires the ability to appropriately and professionally handle multiple and competing priorities. Occasional or routine exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous chemicals, etc.
