The Database Administrator develops, implements, administers, and maintains policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of company databases. Implements data models, database designs, data access and table maintenance codes. Resolves database performance and capacity issues, and replication and other distributed data issues. Collaborates and consults with application support teams to fully understand database requirements, issues, and concerns and to maintain database operations according to service level agreements. Provides consulting services to application support teams, DBA teammates, and management for purposes of explaining and defining optimal database strategies and operations. Comply with departmental strategies and operational service level agreements. Mentors junior DBAs and collaborates with peers to achieve all of the above across all databases. Provide expert, hands-on production support of mission-critical and other assigned databases. Monitors assigned databases for performance, maintenance, and tune these databases as appropriate to maintain predefined service level agreements. Install, upgrade, patch, backup, and recover assigned databases as specified by business and compliance requirements. Adheres to company change control processes. Develops patch management strategy for the database environment. The position reports to the ITS Enterprise Data Manager.

This role is regarded as a technical expert responsible for representing IS during project discussions at their early conception. Specifically, working with the various business unit representatives at the hospital and gathering their requirements for new upcoming initiatives and translating those requirements into technical solutions. These solutions must meet the objectives of the business while ensuring compliance with IS standards of security and manageability.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Responsible for the design, implementation, support and maintenance of all functions of relational database systems

Responsible for the following: database security access and documentation.

Monitor overall standards and procedures and assist in integrating various systems

Consult with users, determine requirements and recommend database establishment and utilization

Provide database administration for mission-critical custom and packaged database software

Design storage strategies around backup and recovery for complex database environments, physical structures, and specialized database applications/systems

Uphold enterprise policy guidelines and recommend new/improved guidelines

Partner with project teams and interact with customers to find solutions for projects and operational issues for existing and proposed databases

Act as a liaison serving as primary point of contact between application business segments and database administrators

Demonstrate proficiency in database administration, physical structure, overall architecture, and performance analysis

Provide build standardization and consistency across production and non-production environments

Implement database monitoring to ensure operational stability.

Identify and initiate resolutions to user problems and concerns associated with database server equipment (hardware and software)

Anticipate customer needs and proactively develop solutions to meet them

Serve as a key resource on complex and/or critical issues

Support help desk personnel in troubleshooting.

Protect and maintain user data at all times.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science preferred or five (5) years of work-related experience may substitute for minimum education requirement

At least 5 years experience administering Oracle SQL Server databases

Current, professional-level certification in database administration is highly desirable

Experience writing SQL queries, generating reports and writing scripts to automate processes

experience with EPIC Clarity and Caboodle

active EPIC credentials preferred

Knowledge of, and experience supporting Oracle Database, 19c and later is a plus

Knowledge of, and experience with Cloud computing platforms is a plus

Experience implementing and configuring Linux server, especially Red Hat Enterprise is a plus

Design new client environments before the environment build process is started

Monitoring current server capacities and recommending the timing for new server purchases

Proactively investigate and suggest better uses of current technologies that help with gaining efficiencies or saving money

Understanding of and adherence to Microsofts Best-Practices for database administration and security

Conceptual understanding of highly availability database architectures

The knowledge and ability to perform in all of the basic database management skills of database administration

o Develop, implement, and maintain processes and procedures for database administration on production and non-production servers

o Develop scripts and/or jobs to perform routine database administration tasks

o Development and maintain support key performance metrics, reports, and operational alerts

o Manage database backup and recovery

o Management of database patching implementation requirements for the enterprise

o Assist System Administrators with system Patch/Fix and other teams in planning, tuning, upgrade, and build efforts

o In depth experience performing database tuning and performance analysis

o Assist in the development of policies for data management pertaining to security, auditability, and privacy, and ensure these policies are complied with

Provide on-call DBA support as part of a team rotational schedule

Due to sensitive security and financial responsibilities, must successfully pass Credit/Financial screenings

Strong troubleshooting skills required
