Facility Home Office: 700 N Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302 Department SRHS Employee Pharmacy Position Summary Responsible for: Patient satisfaction Operation of a pharmacy in conformance with all laws pertinent to the practice of pharmacy and the distribution of drugs Directly supervising and managing permitted pharmacy operations, including shift personnel (technicians/clerks/interns/students) Assuring accurate and timely dispensing of prescriptions to patients Communicating with other healthcare personnel to optimize the medication management of all patients Minimum Requirements Education: BS in Pharmacy/Pharm.D. Experience: Prior experience in retail pharmacy management Required Licenses/Registrations/Certifications: Current license (or eligible) to practice pharmacy in S.C. Pharmacy extern will work under supervision of licensed pharmacist until license obtained. Core Job Responsibilities Follows attendance, dress, education (including continuing education) and safety policies Complies with appropriate regulatory agencies’ requirements, e.g. DHEC, DEA, SC BOP etc. Consistently directs staff and encourages teamwork to ensure department workload duties are correctly assigned throughout the staff on a day‐to‐day basis Completes quality assurance checks of all prescriptions prior to dispensing to patient Performs patient counseling on drug therapy, interactions, OTC medications, etc. Monitors and responds to DUR messages in the pharmacy processing system and calls prescribers if needed Ensures inventory management is prioritized within daily operations, optimizing inventory levels, purchasing strategies, recall management, and other essential functions to ensure supply chain integrity Checks in controlled substance orders from the wholesaler, and stocks in the appropriate secured location Ensures controlled substance perpetual inventory is tracked, and accurate, to physical inventory on hand. Reconciling class 2 controlled substance inventory no less than once a month Participates in departmental and hospital activities such as, departmental in‐services, participation in hospital and/or departmental committees. Participates in departmental and hospital activities on performance improvement Supervises the training and orientation of new employees within the permitted pharmacy; Precept IPPE and APPE Advanced Institutional students. Exercises professional judgment, discretion, and initiates communication with physicians, nurses, and other members of the health care team when there is question of appropriateness or a recommendation for more appropriate therapy to ensure safe medication use and to minimize the risk of medication errors Alerts and/or advises physician or health care provider(s) of drug‐drug interaction, food‐drug interaction. Able to identify potential adverse drug reactions, document, and intervene as needed Completes documentation of medication errors and near‐misses, and executes appropriate communication with the patient and prescriber Evaluate performance of assigned personnel Work with staff on an ongoing basis to improve performance and attain their professional development goals by directing, coaching and supporting Monitor the progress of assignments and performance of daily responsibilities for all assigned personnel, coaching and disciplining staff as necessary, with the assistance of department leadership as needed Participate in the recruitment, interviewing and hiring of technical staff (technicians, clerks, interns) as needed Manage scheduling of technical staff to ensure integrity of pharmacy operations Technical staff orientation, training and competency assessment Other duties as assigned Additional Information Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System (SRHS) offers a full spectrum of services through six hospital campuses: Spartanburg Medical Center, Spartanburg Medical Center — Mary Black Campus, Pelham Medical Center, Cherokee Medical Center, Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care and Union Medical Center.
