We are actively recruiting for a Clinical Critical Care Pharmacy Manager to join our leadership team at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC.Under the general management of the Director of Pharmacy, the Clinical Critical Care Pharmacy Manager is responsible for the administration, coordination and supervision of critical care pharmaceutical services at MGUH. The selected leader will identify, resolve, prevent drug-related problems, and conducts clinical activities. The Critical Care Clinical Manager will assist the Director of Pharmacy in setting departmental goals, delivering and advancing the clinical and distributive pharmacy services by interacting with health care providers, patients, and family, as appropriate to ensure continuity of services and to achieve desired positive patient outcomes through safe, efficient, cost-effective drug therapy. The Clinical Critical Care Pharmacy Manager will oversee the critical care pharmacy satellite and report to both the Pharmacy manager and the Director of Pharmacy. EducationBachelor's degree BS in Pharmacy and Master's degree required orDoctoral degree Pharm.D required Experience3 years in a hospital pharmacy with at least 2 years' pharmacy practice management experience in a comprehensive, contemporary pharmaceutical care setting required Licenses and CertificationsPHARMD - Licensed Pharmacist - DC license required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesExtensive knowledge of the theory and practice of critical care pharmacy service, good written and verbal communication skills.Must demonstrate and maintain knowledge and skills in providing appropriate care for the adult, adolescent, pediatric and neonatal patients that involve the use of drugs.Must demonstrate knowledge in understanding of changes in physiology in various age groups, understanding of drug pharmacokinetics and toxicities in the various age, and understanding of proper selection of drugs.Coordinates delivery of pharmaceutical care with staff in the centralized and critical care satellite pharmacy areas.Coordinates training of new employees, residents and students.Prepares and assists with administration of critical care employee performance evaluations.Counsels critical care staff on their performance and provides documentation of exemplary and unsatisfactory work performance at time of occurrence.Participates in the selection, development, and training of critical care technicians and pharmacists.Ensures that the critical care satellite pharmacy is in compliance with all regulatory and licensing agencies and departmental requirements.Proactively seeks solutions to patient problems encountered both inside and outside of the department.Serves as the department's liaison and maintains strict confidentiality of patients or employee information.Ensure adequate staff at all time including critical times.Participates in distributive pharmacy services to include filling and checking outgoing medications, IV's, etc.Reviews all targeted drugs for proper indication, renal dosage adjustment for all drugs, drug-drug interaction screening, review of microbiology for proper selection of anti-infectives, therapeutic drug monitoring, pharmacokinetics, TPN order review for appropriateness and provision of drug information to other healthcare providers when indicated.Participates in rounds with the medical team.Participates in the meetings of the critical care units to convey information to and from the pharmacy.The Critical Care Clinical Manager is responsible for in-services to the staff pharmacist, the medical team and nursing about drug information, guidelines and protocols, and all applicable meeting minutes.Responsible for documenting ADR in critical care units. Developing criteria for DUE's or MUE's on drugs affecting the critical care patients.Reviews medication orders, patient profiles, patient's clinical data, therapeutic duplication, dose adjustments, drug interactions, Warfarin dosing, Antidotes utilization, VTE prophylaxis, etc. Performs Team Leader activities on assigned units. These include but not limited to:Communicates with the RN managers & RN educators (i.e. Shortages, new procedures, in-services, etc). Inspects assigned units and submits the inspection reports to the Director, Pharmacy Services or designee.Participates in departmental quality and performance improvement initiatives. Documents interventions and productivity.Performs pharmacokinetics evaluations and evaluations for drug interactions, adverse drug reactions, and appropriate dosage selection. Makes recommendations to medical staff for alternate drug therapy based on clinical evaluations to promote cost effective and improve patient outcomes.Exemplifies Guest and Staff Relations standards in all activities. Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate to the position and area, such as assists in performing the tasks of clinical research pharmacy activities, and preceptorship of pharmacy students.
