Summary/Functions: *Supervises and coordinates the activities of public safety and administrative support staff engaged in law enforcement and crime prevention at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff campus. *Directs or supervises special and/or complex investigations, compiles statistical reports concerning sub-division activities, and supervises the maintenance of special files, confidential documents, and legal and administrative reports. *Directs the operations of sub-division programs and staff assigned to investigations, crime prevention, campus patrol, traffic, parking, and/or communications; coordinates testing, recruitment, and training activities, and recommends disciplinary actions for misconduct. *Assists in planning and developing departmental goals, objectives, and programs by developing and administering budgets, communicating directives to employees and developing and maintaining productivity standards for proper compliance to established criteria. *Develops policy directives for assigned areas, issues operational directives to sub-division employees. *Ensures completion of departmental goals and objectives; keeps abreast of changes in laws, regulations, policies, procedures and practices and disseminates to sub-division personnel. *Coordinates public safety matters with prosecutors, attorneys, courts and university officials; disseminates information to the general public and the news media. *Coordinate and schedule in-service training activities for assigned personnel, communicate standards and practices to assure uniform delivery of services to the campus, or coordinate law enforcement activities with campus departments and outside organizations. *Performs other duties as assigned.

Hiring Requirements: ý Bachelorýs degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, the social sciences or related field. ý Ten years of experience in law enforcement involving progressively more complex assignments and supervisory responsibility. ý Background and experience as well as proven skills, to generate the respect and trust of staff and senior administration, and the support of the campus community generally. ý Certified or certifiable as a police officer in the State of Arkansas, with certification as a Police Chief desirable. ý Excellent written and oral communication skills. ý Knowledge and demonstrated skills in Law Enforcement administration, budget management, police procedures, emergency preparedness methods and processes, personnel development, strategic planning and policy development. ý Knowledge of public relations and community policing. Skilled in developing strong community relations and building bridges between the campus community and surrounding towns and cities. ý Outstanding leadership ability with an appreciation for human dynamics and practical implementation skills. Must lead by example. ý Collaborative and collegial style of leadership, with the ability and willingness to work as a member of a team, and to foster a team environment within the department. ý Ability to work effectively within the diverse culture of the University.
