This position is an exempt position at pay grade 312.

Attendance

Non-rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; must be available to work additional hours as needed.

Overview

Under general administrative direction assists and supports the planning, organization, direction, and the overall management, administration, operation, and maintenance of the Animal Care Services Department. Coordinates assigned activities with other City departments and outside agencies and provides highly responsible support to the Director. Establishes priorities and assists in overseeing direction for animal intake, care, control, and public safety following ACS codes, policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
•Assists with full management for all the department services and operations; interpreting, formulating, and implementing policies; oversees the facility maintenance and operations of the department to ensure a safe work environment is provided for the public and staff; with evaluating and recommending changes and improvements of the departments operations to existing standards and procedures.
•Recommends and assists in the implementation of department goals and objectives; establishes schedules and methods for providing effective and humane services. Assist with developing grant applications, funding and compliance processes. Monitor and modify programs, metrics, processes and procedures and initiate actions for improvement when necessary.
•Participates in the development and administration of the departmental budget; directs and coordinates budget monitoring system; provides policy direction and operating procedures regarding expenditures.
•Assists with the review, interpretation, and enforcement of Animal Care city codes, departmental policies and regulations mandated by Federal, State and local government entities.
•Assist the Director with responses to questions from the public, City Officials, and the media. Works with Public Safety and Health Officials in monitoring and reviewing animal-related community concerns. Participate in public education and awareness services such as community outreach events, presentations to civic groups, schools, or neighborhood meetings.
•Assist the Director in the development and monitoring of short and long range strategies to include cleanliness, housing, flow, capacity, and capital construction and design. Identifies areas of quality management to enhance productivity, communication, and accountability improving overall customer service and quality assurance.
•May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
•Requires

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of six (6) years of experience

OR

Associate's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of eight (8) years of experience
•A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
