Job Summary
Manages the activities and operations of the Commercial Credit Analysis team responsible for capturing, autoscoring and underwriting small business loans with a total Synovus Relationship Exposure (TSRE) up to $2.5MM for lenders across the Synovus footprint. Ensures adherence to Synovus policy with a focus on assessing credit risk and approving or declining credit within assigned approval authority. Monitors and evaluates team workflow, quality, responsiveness, and overall accuracy. Implementation policies and procedures to ensure soundness, consistency, compliance. Supports internal and external customer inquiries and acts as a subject-matter-expert in all aspects of the underwriting process.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Manges the activities and operations of the Commercial Credit analysis team ensuring underwriting complies with established policies and procedures and loan polity limits are observed; and underwriting and credit quality standards are maintained. Monitors and evaluates team workflow and works with Supervisor to allocate resources based on current volumes.
- Conducts credit reviews of commercial manually underwritten loans, with a primary focus on large, complex commercial loans. Manages the assessment of complex and high-risk clients and prospective clients.
- Resolves exceptions and non-standard underwriting issues. Analyzes and recommends optimum course of action to maximize profitability while providing a complete risk/delinquency analysis. Consults with Credit and other partners on large or complex loans as needed.
- Continuously monitors established service delivery standards while removing barriers that impact the delivery of quality customer service. Identifies issues, analyzes root causes, and provides solutions to senior management. Establishes goals and work plans consistent with Small Business Loan objectives and monitors results. Ensures customer expectations are met.
- Works directly with supervisors and analysts providing feedback and coaching support to improve performance. Assists senior manager with customer service and escalation issues. Assists in the development and oversight of corrective procedures and processes as needed. Implementation policies and procedures to ensure soundness, consistency, compliance.
- Applies Knowledge and in-depth knowledge of credit risk management processes to ensure the appropriate balance between company risk and client relationship. Develops and maintains relationships with bankers and other line-of-business partners.
- Maintains knowledge of lending policies, procedures and regulations. Attends and completes all necessary training. Remains informed on variations in laws across state boundaries as applicable.
- Manages the annual performance management and merit processes for direct and indirect reports. Coaches and develops team members and builds a work environment where team members are engaged and feel a positive sense of achievement about their role in the company. Works closely with Human Resources regarding employee relations, compensation, training, posting and filling vacant positions and other Human Resources related matters.
- Each team member is expected to be aware of risk within their functional area. This includes observing all policies, procedures, laws, regulations and risk limits specific to their role. Additionally, they should raise and report known or suspected violations to the appropriate Company authority in a timely fashion.

Minimum Requirements
Minimum Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Eight years of experience in commercial lending, loan structuring, credit analysis, underwriting, or portfolio management including experience managing a team.
- Expert knowledge of credit risk analysis/underwriting principles, methods, practices and regulatory requirements
- Advanced knowledge of federal and state laws, rules, and regulations governing small business lending
- Knowledge and understanding of Synovus loan policy
- Knowledge of Commercial lending methods, practices and services, economics and credit dynamics
- Knowledge of small business and commercial loan products
- Knowledge of lending systems and credit scoring systems
- Skill providing a balanced approach to enable focus on business and risk management objectives
- Skill implementing and executing strategic solutions and systems in support of Credit Risk and business goals and objectives
- Skill building effective, data driven executive level presentations, summarizing complex issues to highlight key takeaways
- Skill presenting complex ideas and solutions in an organized and compelling manner
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse groups
- Sound decision making skills with ability to balance customer needs with corporate interests
- Ability to plan, implement and evaluate the achievement of goals, objectives and work plans
- Able to multi-task and function under pressure to meet deadlines
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
