Position Details

The Office of Student Conduct at The University of Tampa has a position available for Associate Director of Student Conduct. This position is a 12-month, full-time position that reports to the Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Student Conduct. The associate director has a primary focus on the education of students, staff, and faculty regarding the Student Code of Conduct policies and procedures. The associate director will primarily interpret and adjudicate violations of the Student Code of Conduct and will also serve as the primary university investigator related to student organizational misconduct and sexual misconduct and relationship violence cases. The associate director may also be responsible for overseeing any of the following functions within the Office of Student Conduct: office outreach programs which includes the content development of the Choosing How Opportunities Influence Challenging Ethical Situations (CHOICES) workshop, the training and development of professional and paraprofessional staff regarding the Student Code of Conduct, the administrative processing and delegation of student conduct cases to other hearing officers, the maintenance and development of cross-functional relationships within and beyond the Division of Student Affairs, and other departmental assessment initiatives as assigned.

The associate director serves as a member of the Office of Student Affairs, this position will uphold the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion, collaboration, professional practice, community and citizenship and student-centered learning. The work of this position will intentionally align with strategic priorities to advance the mission and vision of student affairs which results in student learning and support for students to grow as global citizens.

This position is designated as an essential employee and may be required to report to work as scheduled when University offices are closed due to severe weather or other conditions.

Responsibilities
1. Assist in the overall administration of the student disciplinary process by addressing alleged behavioral violations of the Student Code of Conduct and ensure that the University adheres to the related mandated compliance standards.
2. Interpret and administer the Student Code of Conduct by adjudicating policy violations through the prescribed incident review process and formal student conduct hearing board process.
3. Investigate student organizational misconduct and Sexual Misconduct and Relationship Violence complaints.
4. Commit to a non-adversarial, education and learning based student conduct philosophy and ensure that all educational meetings, programs, hearings, and sanctions reinforce the concept of student development and support the mission of the Office of Student Conduct.
5. Manage highly confidential and complex situations that include the adjudication of high-level Student Code violations resulting in suspensions and expulsions including investigations related to hazing and Sexual Misconduct and Relationship Violence violations.
6. Develop and conduct professional and student staff training on community standards including Campus Living Policies, the Student Code of Conduct and Sexual Misconduct and Relationship Violence.
7. Recruit and train appointed faculty, staff, and student hearing board members to serve within the student conduct adjudication process.
8. Conduct reporting and training of all violations of the Student Code of Conduct through Advocate by Symplicity and provide statistical reports and summaries for internal and external use.
9. Work closely with Campus Safety, Residence Life and Title IX regarding incident reports and information gathering.
10. Assist with state and federal compliance that includes but is not limited to the Clery Act, FERPA, VAWA, and Title IX.
11. Assist with other assigned administrative duties within the Office of Student Conduct.
12. Serve on divisional and institutional committees as assigned.
13. Establish effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty, families, and external community members.
14. Maintain confidentiality of educational records in compliance with FERPA regulations.

15. Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds.

Qualifications
1. Master's Degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs or related field required.
2. Five or more years of graduate or professional experience in Student Affairs in a college or university with at least one year within a full-time professional Student Code position.

3. Ability to exercise good judgment, analyze facts, identify solutions, and consistently apply policies and procedures in complex situations.

4. Understand current issues in the field of student conduct and trends within Higher Education.

5. Awareness of federal compliance expectations which include FERPA, VAWA, Clery, and Title IX.

6. Experience working with conduct database software, particularly Advocate by Symplicity.

7. Highly developed written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, and attention to detail.

8. Strong ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with a commitment to quality results, along with follow-through with responsibilities and communications in a timely manner.

9. Proactive and willing to take initiative and feedback from a wide range of university stakeholders and perspectives

10. Ability to maintain a positive attitude and high work ethic while maintaining a strong commitment to student success.

11. Knowledge of or the ability to learn quickly The University of Tampa software programs such as Workday and Microsoft Office.

12. Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices.

Preferred Qualifications
1. Membership in the Association of Student Conduct Administration (ASCA) and prior attendance and completion of the ASCA Gehring Academy Foundations of Professional Practice track.
2. Completion of an Association of Title IX Administrators (ATIXA), Student Conduct Institute (SCI) or other similar investigator training course.
3. Experience managing student organizational conduct cases, including cases involving fraternities and sororities.
4. Supervisory experience including the supervision of students, graduate assistants, or professionals.

Work Schedule
Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Summer schedule: Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.).
Occasional nights and weekends required.
