Required Professional Qualities – It is expected that the Principal will:

Hold a Bachelor’s degree or greater from an accredited post-secondary institution.

Have a minimum of two years of successful classroom teaching.

Have a minimum of one year of administration experience, preferably in a Christian school.

Demonstrate an intermediate level of computer literacy, having proficiency in word processing, creating and using spreadsheets, emailing, and accessing the Internet.

Preferably able to troubleshoot minor program issues.

Possess evidence of other adequate preparation, background, or experience as determined by the Head of School and Board of Trustees.

Demonstrate a moderate level of proficiency in public speaking.

Be willing to obtain administrative certification from our accreditation organization.

Required Personal Qualities – It is expected that the Principal will:

Be an enthusiastic visionary, an encourager, and a self-starter with a high energy level.

Pursue continual professional growth through formal and informal training.

Have the spiritual maturity, academic ability, and personal leadership qualities to “train a child in the way he should go” (Prov. 22:6, NIV).

Sign a contract and live by the terms as a condition for continued employment in this ministry.

Essential Job Functions:

Academic Leadership

Assist with the monitoring of the certification and licensure status of teachers.

Ensure that classrooms reflect a professional and Christian environment.

Assist with the evaluation of employees by using formal and informal evaluation.

Have knowledge of children’s physical and emotional development, and understand the problems they face.

Keep abreast of major current trends in education in general and Christian education in particular through reading, graduate studies, conferences, and contacts with other principals and educators.

Assist in the administration of policy for classification, promotion, or retention of students in the school program.

Utilize data to inform and support decision-making for school improvement.

Foster an atmosphere that promotes academic excellence.

Administrative Leadership

Have the ability to accomplish the goals and objectives assigned by the Head of School.

Meet regularly with teachers to ensure coordination of programs and prompt problem resolution.

Assist in the planning of the schedules, supervision of staff, improvement of instruction, and selection of curriculum.

Help with the revision of the parent/student handbooks, employee handbooks, substitute teacher handbooks, and other such items.

Arrange for substitute teachers when needed, and assist them in successfully carrying out their responsibilities.

Coordinate annual end-of-year inventory of textbooks, furniture, equipment, and other items for all classrooms, and keep adequate records of same.

Assume all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Head of School.

Governance

Keep the Head of School informed on the issues, needs, and operation of the school. Deal directly and frankly with the Head of School in an earnest effort to resolve differences of opinion when they exist. Serve as liaison between the Head of School and faculty, working toward a high degree of understanding and respect between the school staff and the board. Show support for the Board of Trustees’s policy and decisions to the staff, parents, and public.

Personnel

Work with personnel to foster a collaborative work environment, integrating personnel feedback in decision-making when possible.

Encourage and plan opportunities for personnel that support continual growth, both professionally and spiritually.

Make objective recommendations, with adequate supporting data, to the Head of School regarding cases of assignment, transfer, promotion, demotion, nonrenewal of contract, or dismissal.

Ensure that all personnel files are current, treated with appropriate confidentiality, and adequately safeguarded.

Assist in the development and training of a pool of competent substitute teachers and volunteers to ensure the continuity of the school program.

Business and Finances

Assist in the management of the school’s budgetary expenditures and procedures.

Serve as check co-signer for the school bank account.
