Be part of a team providing local expertise backed by the technical resources of a large, global engineering firm.

Your responsibilities include providing technical assistance and guidance for infrastructure construction and rehabilitation projects in the public and private sectors, including the traffic analysis, improvement, design, and operation of streets and highways, their networks, adjacent land uses, and interaction with other modes of transportation and their terminals. Tasks may include performing traffic capacity analyses, reviewing permitting, preparing traffic signal designs, and engaging in the design of roadway projects from concept development through construction document preparation. Your Impact
  • Work collaboratively with other engineers, planners, scientific professionals, and clients on federal, state, regional, and locally funded road and transportation improvement and development projects.
  • Design roadway/highway projects from inception to completion, including horizontal geometry, cross sections, profiles, and grading for a wide range of project types from contextual Complete Streets improvements to interstate highway design development. • Manage the collection of traffic count data for roadways and intersections to determine the volume of traffic, where the traffic is going to and from, and the type of traffic on the roadway.
  • Evaluate safety features on the road, recommending traffic safety enhancement projects based on associated studies. Investigate crash data and determine if changes can be made to roadways or intersections to make it safer for all who use the roads.
  • Develop and incorporate advanced technologies, monitoring devices, modeling techniques, design requirements, and operating strategies to account for the safety and functionality of end-users, transportation vehicles/systems, and the implementation of future-ready solutions.
  • Remain current in latest civil engineering techniques and practices.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • In depth familiarity with MassDOT and RIDOT roadway and traffic design standards, MUTCD and AASHTO, including traffic signals.
  • Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.

  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to both engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment. Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to quality standards.
  • Ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
