THE POSITION:

A Kitchen Associate is responsible for facilitating the distribution of food and beverages to program participants, maintaining accurate records of daily food distribution, and ensuring proper food storage and sanitation. The role involves receiving and stocking orders, establishing, and maintaining working relationships with program staff, providing overnight food supplies, reporting maintenance needs for kitchen equipment and areas, displaying weekly and daily menus, and ensuring that workstations are clean and sanitized.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Facilitates the distribution of packaged food and beverages to program participants
  • Manages the receipt and stocking of orders on a daily basis or as they are delivered
  • Establishes and maintains working relationships with program staff at the designated site
  • Provides overnight food supplies to program staff as necessary
  • Keeps accurate records of daily food distribution and submits kitchen food, drink, and supply orders as needed
  • Responsible for preparing meals, including warming and service to participants
  • Reports any maintenance needs for kitchen equipment and areas to the appropriate parties
  • Displays weekly and daily menus for participants to view
  • Responsible for dining hall and kitchen sanitation and cleaning
  • Ensures that workstations are clean, sanitized, and well-maintained
  • Cleans and sanitizes dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and other containers and returns them to their appropriate locations
  • Adheres to all safety and sanitation guidelines and regulations to ensure the highest quality of food service
  • Ensures proper food storage in properly functioning equipment and keeps food and drinks safely secured
  • Manages inventory of food, drinks, and utensils and refills condiments or other supplies as necessary
  • Performs additional tasks, projects, and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor
WHAT YOU'RE SKILLED AT:
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting instructions and applying sound judgment in decision-making
  • In-depth knowledge of appropriate food handling and sanitation procedures
  • Ability to establish and maintain clear boundaries while adhering to policies and procedures
  • Proven ability to multitask and respond effectively in challenging situations
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to perform well in a fast-paced work environment
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish (preferred but not required)
OTHER:
  • Maintains and executes confidential information according to HIPAA standards
  • Obtain and maintains CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in an upright standing position for long periods of time
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights above ground level (e.g. rooftops)
  • Ability to work in adverse working conditions (e.g. heat, cold, wind, rain)
  • Ability to pass a Pre-Employment Physical Exam
  • Ability to pass post offer Tuberculosis (TB) clearances
  • Travel is a regular duty for this position and is required 20% of the time
  • Use of a personal vehicle to travel between worksites and other locations is required
  • Must have and maintain a valid California Driver's License and auto insurance in good standing (if applicable)
  • Flexible on call schedule to accommodate some non-traditional hours and/or holidays and weekends
WHAT YOU'VE ACCOMPLISHED:
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Obtaining Serve Safe certification within the first week of employment is required
