Description

Old Republic Surety Company (ORSC) is currently seeking an Assistant Vice President-Claims to join its Claims Team on the West Coast. Working closely with the Vice President - Surety Claims, the Assistant Vice President - Surety Claims plays an integral role in the collaboration and design of policies and procedures within the Claims department to achieve quality claims handling results while ensuring compliance with company procedures. The Assistant Vice President - Surety Claims also handles assigned claims and provides leadership and technical guidance to departmental staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supervise direct reports, make recommendations for performance management and disciplinary action. Train subordinates to achieve goals. Contribute to the new employee selection process.
  • Set authority levels of direct reports.
  • Execute resolution of assigned claims by achieving equitable claim service on a timely basis, setting and maintaining appropriate reserves, and pursuing salvage and/or taking any steps necessary to minimize losses or preserve assets for recovery.
  • Negotiate and settle claims with a higher complexity level within authority limits. Control allocated Loss Adjustment Expenses.
  • In the event of travel or other absence, back up Vice President - Surety Claims with respect to claim assignments and inquiries from other departments.
  • Consult with Vice President - Surety Claims on development and execution of department initiatives.
  • File necessary fraud reports to ensure compliance with various state regulations and filing requirements. Serve as SIU Coordinator and create annual training materials.
  • Attend various industry association meetings on behalf of the company.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
This position requires a Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of ten years of Surety Claims experience, including prior management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Working as an Assistant Vice President-Surety Claims requires one to work independently and effectively within a fast-paced environment. Proficiency with Microsoft (MS) Windows and Office products is necessary. Other skills necessary include excellent oral and written communication skills, strong organizational and accurate proofreading skills, the ability to maintain accurate records, the ability to exercise discretion with confidential information, strong attention to detail, and the ability to use a variety of office equipment.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:This position requires one to sit for extended periods of time and stand and/or walk occasionally. The position requires one to occasionally push, pull, carry, and/or lift up to 10 pounds. No personal protective equipment is required. Ergonomic equipment is available to employees.WHO ARE WE?
