Position Summary

Advance Huntsville Botanical Garden’s mission through producing integrated, strategic marketing communications that heighten brand reputation, drive visitation, and engage and educate audiences identified in marketing personas. Play a key role in understanding Garden visitors through audience research, analytics, and collaboration to build comprehensive audience knowledge used to inform marketing plans and campaigns. Work with internal and external creative teams as a brand guardian, ensuring messaging and brand consistency across assets.

Essential Functions

Partner with the Assistant to the CEO and the Director of Marketing and Communications to shape and implement overall brand strategy, positioning and communication. Develop editorial calendar to support reputation, participation, and revenue goals. Partner with external media agency and internal teams to conceptualize and deliver campaigns of varied scale. Provide editorial oversight to shape accurate and effective communications that tell a compelling story for the Garden. Collaborate with content creators throughout the organization to foster alignment on voice and style. Serves as managing editor of Garden Columns quarterly magazine; curates content, contributes as a writer, provides input on design. Ensures timely delivery in accordance with publishing schedule. Writes marketing campaign plans and documents ongoing campaign performance while ensuring an effective project management approach. Partner with Directors and their teams to develop institutional communications priorities, synchronize communications timing, and ensure consistency of messaging through all audience touch points. Maintain advertising calendar/contracts; ensure deliverables meet brand standards and are sent to media outlets on time. Play a key role in the formulation and championing of a data-driven understanding of the Garden's nonmember visitors, visitors, donors, volunteers, and other key stakeholders and publics. Translate, share, and apply findings to marketing strategy. Manage Garden’s social media strategy, presence, and engagement. Perform necessary duties related to digital asset management and archiving. Collaborate with Marketing team to manage the evolution of key digital marketing tools including the website and e-communications. Supervise assigned staff and/or volunteers. Duties include recruitment and selection, scheduling and job assignments, performance feedback, and staff development and training in keeping with the Garden’s policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations or related field and 5+ years of related professional experience and/or an equivalent combination there of required. Experience must include demonstrated management of successful marketing campaigns in partnership with design and public relations (project management). Requires excellent writing and grammar skills, digital strategy experience, and paid media expertise. A solid understanding of the use of audience research, analytics, personas, and trends.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in botanical gardens, museums, cultural institutions, advertising agency, nonprofit organization, or related organization. Working knowledge of Google Analytics, social media analytics, and other data analytics. Proficiency in Associated Press writing style. Experience working with WordPress and Adobe Creative Suite.

Physical Demands: This position is required to continuously communicate with people internal and external to the Garden. Occasionally requires the ability to lift up to 15 lbs. Work Environment: Fast-paced office environment. Work is frequently performed indoors with occasional outdoor activity in varied and uneven terrains and all-weather conditions for events or programs. Equipment: General office equipment.
